Tag/Day 1.2 auf der/on NORWEGIAN JADE in Civitavecchia, Italy

Ich muss leider früher weg vom Essen, da wir nicht alleine reisen und ich versprochen habe, am Bahnhof zu warten. Mit dem Bus geht es zum Bahnhof.



I had to leave earlier from lunch as we did not travelled alone and I promised to wait at the train station. I took the bus to the station.

For 1.00 EUR (2014) you use the City Bus Civitavecchia to the station.



Für 1,00 EUR (2014) kommt man mit Stadtbus Civitavecchia zum Bahnhof.

Vor dem Bahnhof entlang der Uferpromenade wird man abgesetzt. Manche Busse, die am Bahnhof enden, fahren bis vor den Eingang. Meine Linie F nicht.



In front of the station we were dropped off at the promenade. Some busses which terminate at the station go to the entrance. But not my route F.

In the new attachment building a travel agent moved in.



Vorne ist im Anbau ein Reisebüro eingezogen.

Weil es soviele Kreuzfahrer in Civitavecchia gibt, gibt es die Hinweise in Englisch: Eine einzelne Fahrt mit dem Regionalzug nach Rom kostet 5,00 EUR (2. Klasse - 2014) und das BIRG-Ticket das für Hin- und Rückfahrt im Regionalzug und in den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln von Rom gilt, derzeit 12,00 EUR (2. Klasse -  2014) für 5 Zonen.



Because there are so many cruisers in Civitavecchia many information are in English: A single train ride to Rome in the Regional Train is 5.00 EUR (2nd class - 2014) and the BIRG-Ticket for the outbound and return journey in the regional train and the public transport in Rome is currently 12.00 EUR (2nd class - 2014) for 5 zones.

Pay attention to the opening hours of the counters.



Man beachte bitte die Öffnungszeiten der Schalter.



And make sure that you noticed that you need to cancel the BIRG-Tickets!



Und unbedingt den Hinweis beachten, dass das BIRG-Ticket noch entwertet werden muss!

Und wer keine Lust hat, am Fahrkartenschalter zu warten, dreht sich einfach um und geht zum Zeitungsladen direkt gegenüber.



And who does not like to wait at the ticket counters may turn around and go to the newsstand adjustent.

I tried to use the new ticket machines and see if they sell BIRG-Tickets here.



Ich versuche es mal am Fahrkartenautomaten, ob es auch hier das BIRG-Ticket gibt.

Aber in der Eile kann ich es nicht finden.

War sehr übersichtlich gestaltet.

5,00 EUR (2014) in der 2. Klasse,  7,50 EUR (2014) in der 1. Klasse im Regionalzug. 15,00 EUR für den Hochgeschwindigkeitszug, der einen in 42 Minuten nach Roma Termini bringt (2. Klasse, 20,00 EUR 1. Klasse, 2014).



5.00 EUR (2014) in the 2nd class, 7.50 EUR (2014) in the 1st class in the Regional Train. 15.00 EUR for the high speed train which need only 42 minutes to Roma Termini (2nd class, 20.00 EUR in 1st class - 2014).

I had to rush. You should not speculate that Italian trains are always unpuctual.



Ich muss mich allerdings beeilen. Man sollte nicht darauf spekulieren, dass italienische Züge sehr unpünktlich sind.

Da kommt der Hochgeschwindigkeitszug "Frecciabianca" aus Rom.



There the highspeedtrain "Frecciabianca" arrived from Rome.

When they had the new attachment building they forgot to build an elevator. You could get into the tunnel with the help of a stair lift... but how do you get on or from the platform.



Beim Neubau des Anbaus haben sie leider einen Fahrstuhl vergessen. Man kommt allerdings in den Tunnel mit Hilfe eines Treppenliftes... nur wie kommt man vom und zum Bahnsteig.

Vorne warten bereits die Stadtbusse.

You should know this number if you need a taxi... the number of the taxi stand at Civitavecchia train station.



Die Nummer sollte man sich mal merken, wenn man mal ein Taxi braucht... Die Nummer vom Taxistandplatz am Bahnhof Civitavecchia.

Für die Fahrt von fünf Personen zum Schiff nimmt der Taxifahrer 5,00 EUR/Person (2014)... die Alternative war einen schweren Koffer voll Flüssig-Aleo-Vera durch Civitavecchia zum Hafenbus zu rollen... Ich entscheide mich dafür, dass wir die 5,00 EUR/Person zahlen und unterwegs Bruno und seine Eltern einsammeln.



For the transfer of 5 persons to the ship the taxi-driver charged 5.00 EUR/person (2014)... alternatively I had to push a very heavy suitcase full of liquid Aloe Vera through Civitavecchia to the port bus... I decided to pay the 5.00 EUR/person and asked for pick-up of Bruno and his parents.

Before we arrived I checked the option to check-in at 15.30 hrs... They disliked the idea... Originally 15.00 hrs should be end of the check-in.



Im Vorfeld hatte ich erklärt, dass wir gerne gegen 15.30 Uhr erst einchecken würden... Die Idee wurde als nicht gut befunden... Eigentlich ist um 15.00 Uhr Schluss.

Dank des Taxis haben wir es doch noch bis 14.51 Uhr geschafft am Terminal sein.



Due to the taxi we made it 14.51 hrs until arrived at the terminal.

I think that their wish to close the check-in at 15.00 hrs was quite optimistic. We learned later that some guests even checked-in after 16.00 hrs and need to go directly to the muster drill.



Der Wunsch um 15.00 Uhr das Check-In zu beenden war jedoch ein sehr frommer Wunsch. Hinterher erfahren wird, dass selbst Gäste noch um 16.00 Uhr eingecheckt haben, die dann direkt zur Seenotrettungsübung mussten.

Nach dem wir alle Formalitäten erledigt hatten, fehlten unsere Schlüsselkarten. Hier sagte man uns, dass diese in der Priority Lounge bereitgehalten würde. Ich dachte sie wäre abgeschafft worden. Zuletzt, als wir The Haven auf der NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY gebucht hatten, wurde sie in Rotterdam nicht aufgebaut. Da hatte wohl jemand keine Lust dazu gehabt. Allerdings waren leider die Negativerlebnisse auf der NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY mit dem Concierge leider eine hohe Hürde für den Concierge hier an Bord der NORWEGIAN JADE. Von dem wollte ich anfangs weder etwas sehen noch etwas hören.



After all paperwork were done our keycards were missing. Here we were told that they were kept ready for us at the Priority Lounge. I thought they withdraw this service. Last time with NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY when we booked and paid for The Haven there was nothing in Rotterdam. Obviously someone had not the right passion to offer this service. But as we made a lot of bad experiences with the Concierge on NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY I felt more than sorry for the Concierge here on board of NORWEGIAN JADE. At the beginning I did not want to see and hear anything from the Concierge.

We were pushed so quickly to the ship that I could not help myself with same canapés...



Wir wurden dann so schnell durchgeschleust: ich konnte mich nicht mal an den Schnittchen bedienen...

Alles war super vorbereitet. Wir mussten nichts fragen, wie bei der NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY sondern wir hatten alle Antworten in der Hand. War ich vielleicht doch letztes Jahr mit Royal Caribbean unterwegs... Kann es wirklich NCL gewesen sein...



Everything was very well prepared. There was no need to ask like on NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY. Every answer we need was in our hand. Maybe I was sailing with Royal Caribbean the last year... Was it really NCL...

Finally we should board now MY NORWEGIAN JADE. The 5th time.



Endlich geht es auf MEINE NORWEGIAN JADE. Zum 5. Mal.





Das hatten wir bislang nicht. Sah nett aus...



So far we did not have it before. Looked nice...

Das geht aber noch schöner... wie zuletzt auf der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT. Das war ein echt herzliches Willkommen.



Well - you can do it better and nicer... like here on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT. This was a true cordial welcome.

First which attracted my attention were the new signs.



Zunächst fielen mal die neuen Schilder auf.

Im Fahrstuhl gibt es neue Anzeigen. Eine Sache sollten sie vielleicht mal von Princess abgucken: An Tagen wie Einschiffung, Ausschiffung und Tenderbetrieb mit Liftboys arbeiten.



In the elevator they had new displays. One thing they could copy from Princess: on days like embarkation, debarkation or tender operation they worked with liftboys.

And here they had new signs again: incl. our cabin no. - So I cannot miss my cabin.



Und auch hier neue Schilder - sogar mit unserer Kabinennummer - So können wir unsere Kabine nicht verfehlen.

Zorica Stojmanovska hatte uns zur Kabine begleitet und bevor wir in die Kabine durften, guckte sie erst mal nach, ob alles in Ordnung war. So hätte ich es mir auf der NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY gewünscht. Aber da wurden wir ja samt Gepäck einfach weggeschickt, dass wir unsere Kabinen selbst suchen sollten... In The Haven... weil der Concierge wohl zu müde war, etwas für seine Gäste zu tun...



Zorica Stojmanovska escorted us to the cabin and before she allowed us to enter our cabin she double checked if everything was well prepared. That was the way I was expecting on NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY too. But there we were sent away incl. our bags and we should find our cabins ourselves... In The Haven... because the Concierge was too tired to do something for his guests...

Very quickly our Cabin Steward Ronaldo Clamor appeared. Beside that his a very nice guy: he even lifted our personal items from the table to clear the dust. We only knew from many others who were cleaning around. All cables which were not connected he was winding in coils. We were totally exited to have him as our steward!!!



Schnell kam auch unser Kabinensteward Ronaldo Clamor. Abgesehen davon, dass er ein sehr netter Kerl ist: Der hat sogar unsere Sachen auf dem Tisch angehoben, um darunter zu wischen. Wir kennen meistens nur das drum herum wischen. Alle Kabel die lose herumlagen, hat er aufgewickelt. Wir waren restlos begeistert!!!

Die einzige blöde Zone laut Bruno: es gab nie genug Licht, wenn man etwas im Schrank oder in den Schubladen suchte. Aber wir haten ja zum Glück eigene Lichtquellen mit... (BEVOR WIR VON NCL ALS GÄSTE GESPERRT WERDEN: NEIN - WIR HATTTEN KEINE KERZEN MITGEHABT: Taschenlampenfunktion unsere iPhones).



The only stupid according to Bruno: you never had enough light if you were looking something in the drawers or in the closet. We had our own source of lights with us... (BEFORE NCL BLACKLISTS US AS GUESTS: NO - WE HAD NO CANDLES WITH US: lamp function of our iPhones).

New mats... we should have take one home earlier...



Neue Matten... hätten wir doch mal eine alte für zu Hause klauen können...

Neuer Fernseher... Flachbildschirm...



New TV-set... Flatscreen...

Well somehow the shape of the milk was somehow different.



Nur die Form der Milch war etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Und zum ersten Mal musste Bruno nichts abkleben, weil es überhaupt nicht zog.



It was the first time Bruno must not tape anything as it was not breezy.

The temperature could be kept constantly.



Die Temperatur konnte konstant gehalten werden.

Und die Klimaanlage konnte man gut steuern. Trotzdem ist es für uns ungewohnt mit Klimaanlage zu schlafen, so dass ständig doch immer etwas war (z. B. man trocknet aus). Und für ganz "Blöde", die es besser wissen und uns immer fragen, warum wir nicht schlau genug sind einfach die Klimaanlage abschalten: NEIN - auf einem Schiff kann man die Klimaanlage in den Kabinen nicht abschalten... und schon gar nicht in einer Innen- oder Außenkabine (ohne Balkon)... Man könnte ja sonst ohne Frischluftzufuhr "ersticken".



It was very easy to control the air condition. But for us it was somehow unusual to sleep with air condition so you finally had something (like you are drying out). And for very "stupid" guys who know everything better and always ask why we are not smart enough to turn off the air-condition: NO - you cannot turn off the air-condition in the cabins... and especially not in an inside or oceanview cabin (without balcony)... You could easily "asphyxiate" without any supply of fresh air.

As we had a Flat-TV now we had plenty of space for our mutiple-power-outlet to connect with all charging devices.



Da wir ja einen Flat-TV hatten, gab es hinten viel Platz für unsere 6-Fach-Steckdose um die ganzen Ladegeräte anzuschließen.



The fridge was large enough to hold my insuline and all my ham and bacon.



Der Kühlschrank war groß genug um mein Insulin und meinen Schicken bzw. Speck aufzubewahren.



The curtain was very good that I could easily work in the night.



Der Vorhang war gut, damit ich nachts arbeiten konnte.

Leider ließ er sich bloß nicht vollständig schließen... Es fehlten so 8-10 cm.



Unfortunately you cannot close it completely... So 3-4" were missing.

I tried it one night. But with 45% polyester I need to scratch myself too many times.



Eine Nacht habe ich es probiert. Aber mit 45% Polyester musste ich mich doch zu sehr kratzen.

Der große Unterschied zu Holland America Line (und vielen anderen): Einen echten Nachttisch mit Schubladen gibt es bei NCL nicht.



The big difference to Holland America Line (and many other lines): You do not get a true nightstand with drawers with NCL.

And the stupid hangers... But we had two nice and soft bath ropes.



Und nur die blöden Haken... Dafür zwei schöne Bademäntel.

Und Slippers.

A safe for which you do not need a card for.



Ein Safe, mit dem man keine Karte braucht.

Die Bodum-Kanne und den Kaffee hätten wir getrost zu Hause lassen können...



We could easily left the French Press and the coffee at home...

Therefore we had plenty of ginger and jasmine tea with us. But that we could also easily leave at home.



Dafür hatten wir eine Menge Ingwer- und Jasmin-Tee mitgehabt. Hätten wir aber auch zu Hause lassen können.

Wir mussten erstmal eine zusätzliche Kabine für unsere Geschenke beantragen...



We should apply one additonal cabin only for our gifts...

Well... somehow NCL always forget that we do not drink alcohol. But we had enough cruise-mates who drank and so we had nothing to exchange and forwarded the bottles.



Naja... das hat NCL immer noch nicht so richtig mitbekommen, dass wir keinen Alkohol trinken. Da wir aber genügend Mitreisende haben, die trinken, haben wir dieses Mal nichts eingetauscht und die Flaschen weitergegeben.

I was not allowed to keep the sharp box... so sad...



Nur die Sharpbox durfte ich nicht behalten... Schade...

Als wir es gut meinten und unsere Geschenke weiterreichten, stellten wir fest: die anderen brauchen auch einen Anbau.



We wanted to be kind and forwarded our gifts and found out: our cruise-mates also need an attachment to their cabin.

That was nice... with NORWEGIAN SUN I had somehow the impression that everything was withdrawned...



Das ist ja schön... bei der NORWEGIAN SUN hatte ich ja leicht den Eindruck, dass das alles damals abgeschafft worden wäre...

Und was verbirgt sich nun in der blauen Tasche...

Für das Durchlesen der gesamten Post, hätte ich besser meine Sekretärin mitbringen sollen... Das dauerte gut eine Stunde: Bis dass alles nach Tagen sortiert und wieder an der Wand mit den Magneten befestigt war. Manchmal ist es echt schön, wenn man igkognito reist... Grüße und Coupons als Latitudes Platin... Grüße als derjenige, der den Meet & Greet von cruisecritic.com organisiert hat... Grüße als Gast, der die Concierge-Betreuung in Anspruch nehmen darf. Der Mini-Guide scheint anscheinend ausgegangen zu sein, weil man nur so billige Kopien bekommt. Dann noch die Anleitungen, wie es mit Ausflügen, Getränkepaketen, Cruise Rewards und am nächsten Tag funktioniert. Und am Schluss des Tages gibt es zum Glück wieder die Gute-Nacht-Schokolade.



For reading all my mails I should have my secretary with me... It took around one hour: until everything was sorted by date and fixed at the wall by magnets. Occasionally it was very nice to travel as Mr Nobody... Greetings and coupons as Latitudes Plantinum... Greetings to the person who organised the Meet & Greet with cruisecritic.com... Greetings as guest who is entitled to use the Concierge-service. Obviously the mini-guide ran out as we got so cheap copies only. Finally you got all instructions to book your shore-excursions, your beverage packages, cruise rewards and for the following day. And at the end of the day your get again the Good-Night-Chocolate.

In the bathroom nothing changed.



Im Bad ist alles beim alten.

In der Mini-Suite gibt es allerdings eine Badewanne statt einer Dusche.



In the mini-suite you had a bath-tub instead of a shower.



Über die Elemis-Produkte freue ich mich sehr.



I was happy to have the Elements-products.

The balcony was very nice and large too. The sunloungers were not as nice as with Holland America but they were reclinable.



Der Balkon war auch schön groß. Die Liegen zwar nicht so toll, wie bei Holland America, aber doch verstellbar.

Übrigens ist das da hinten die GRAND HOLIDAY... davor ist Sigrid (nur wenn etwas schlimmes passiert ist), sonst Sigi... Wir kennen uns seit 27 Jahren, als ich mal als Praktikant in einer Schiffsmaklerei in Hamburg angefangen habe und seitdem haben wir uns nie aus den Augen verloren. Seit ihren Erfahrungen mit Phoenix, Hurtigruten, Transocean und AIDA wollte sie eigentlich nicht mehr auf Kreuzfahrt gehen, aber wir haben sie mal überredet, NCL auszuprobieren. Das schöne bei NCL: die Freundschaft, die man mit ihnen pflegt, wird immer auf die mitreisenden Gäste erweitert - ganz nach dem Motto: "Ihre Freunde sind selbstverständlich auch unsere Freunde". Eine Einstellung, die mich bei NCL immer wieder fasziniert und die ich immer wieder gerne erlebe.



By the way in the rear you had the GRAND HOLIDAY... in front you had Sigrid (only if something serious happened), otherwise Sigi... We knew eachother for 27 years when I started as trainee in a shipping agency in Hamburg and we always stayed in touch for so many years. She decided not to go again on a cruise since her experience with Hurtigruten (Norwegian Coastal Line) and the German cruise lines Phoenix, Transocean and AIDA but could convince her to come one more time on a cruise and to test NCL. The good thing with NCL: the friendship they maintain with you they always extend to your cruise-mates - just like "Your friends are naturally aslo our friends". A philosophy when NCL always fascinates me and which I love to experience again and again.

And so we enjoyed the sunset when we set sail from Civitavecchia.
