Tag/Day 6.1 auf der/on NORWEGIAN JADE in Istanbul, Turkey

Mit Turkcell Europe wird es immer merkwürdiger. Ich hatte ja bloß EDGE und soll mein Guthaben bereits aufgebraucht haben. Und selbst wenn ich den SMS-Anweisungen folge: Es funktioniert nicht. Dagegen ist aber Türk Telekom Mobile richtig gut: hier funktioniert die Abfrage meines Volumens und Guthabens richtig gut. Auch wenn es etwas lange gedauert hat. Aber es funktioniert.



With Turkcell Europe it became more and more strange. I only got 2.5 G and my deposit was all gone. And even I follow the text messages: it did not work. But with Türk Telekom Mobile it worked quite well. You could check easily your internet volume and your deposit. Even it took some time to do the request. But it worked.

I told my company multiple times that I still had a SIM-card which is few generation old... So sometimes it happened that the SIM-card does not work anymore in few countries.



Ich habe in der Firma mehrfach gesagt, dass ich eine SIM-Karte im Blackberry habe, als der Mobilfunkdienst von Telekom noch T-D1 hieß... Dann passiert es schon mal, dass die SIM-Karte schon mal im Ausland Schwierigkeiten macht.

Wir gehen zum Frühstück. Ich baue mir einen Strammen Max.



We went for breakfast. I started to construct a open face sandwich with rye-bread, ham and fried eggs: in German "Strammer Max" (= Sturdy Max).





To make sure that we are doing fine they had our ginger-mint-infusion ready. To make sure that we are doing really fine they already prepared it by having it boiled and infused. After drinking it you need to see the ship's medical center to let them repair your throat. I saw how they did it and now I am doing it the same way home.



Damit es uns gut geht, steht bereits unser frischer Ingwer-Minz-Tee bereit. Damit es uns richtig gut geht haben sie den Tee schon vorbereitet und schon einmal aufkochen und durchziehen lassen. Danach muss man eigentlich in die Bordklinik um sich den Hals behandeln lassen. Ich habe dann bei der Zubereitung zugeguckt und mache seitdem den zu Hause genauso.

Bruno möchte nicht mit zur Behind-the-Scenes-Tour. Er merkt, dass etwas im Anmarsch ist und das letzte Mal war es in den Kühlräumen doch zu kalt. So nehme ich Sigi mit. Zum ersten Mal werden wir durch den Future Cruise Consultant Palonma geführt.



Bruno did not like to join the Behind-the-Scenes-Tour. He noticed something was coming and last time it was too cold in the perishible stores. So I took Sigi with me. The very first time that we were guided by the Future Cruise Consulatant Paloma.

Here I was interested to know how NORWEGIAN JADE was rated within the fleet. As NORWEGIAN EPIC will be moved for the all-year-operation to Europe I was really shockec to see how bad she is rated.



Hier interessiert mich natürlich, wie die NORWEGIAN JADE innerhalb der Flotte bewertet wird. Da ja die NORWEGIAN EPIC nach Europa im Ganzjahresbetrieb verlegt wird, bin ich natürlich schockiert, dass sie so schlecht bewertet wird.









Ich lese noch ein paar Kommentare.

As I had an appointment at 10.00 hrs with Cruise Director Jill I left the tour just before 10.00 hrs. Sigi told me that there was only 10 more minutes to go before the tour was at the end. That was very strange. We did multiple times the tour. There it was always more than three hours: see here in the NORWEGIAN SPIRIT-Blog or NORWEGIAN GEM-Blog. Strange: we had more stations to see and especially there was always some specialists from the stations.



Da ich um 10.00 Uhr eine Verabredung mit Cruise Director Jill habe, verlasse ich kurz vor 10.00 Uhr die Tour. Sigi erzählt, dass die Tour nach 10 Minuten auch schon zu Ende war. Das ist merkwürdig. Wir waren ja schon öfters auf diesen Touren. Da haben sie drei Stunden gedauert: siehe hier im NORWEGIAN SPIRIT-Blog und im NORWEGIAN GEM-Blog. Merkwürdig: es gab früher mehr Stationen zu sehen und vor allem es war immer jemand dabei, der aus dem Bereich kommt.

Beispiel: wir durften auch schon mal auf die Brücke und dort wurde uns alles vor Ort erklärt.

Even they could not offer it due to security level a senior officer came to explain. Looks like NCL found something to save money with their best guests who know the tours already. I am very curious if they also make the cuttings for the regular tours for which you have to pay 75.00 USD for.



Und selbst als wir aufgrund einer bestimmten Sicherheitslage nicht auf die Brücke durften, kam ein hochrangiger Offizier raus, um uns alles zu erklären. Offensichtlich hat mal NCL mal wieder eine Möglichkeit gefunden zu sparen: an ihren besten Gästen, die vermutlich die Tour eh schon auswendig kennen. Ich bin mal gespannt, ob sie für 75,00 USD die Tour auch so zusammengestrichen haben.

Bruno und seine Eltern genießen die Ruhe am Morgen und gönnen sich an der Aloha Bar eine Tasse Kaffee.

Die Informationen zu dem folgenden Hafen sind jetzt hinter Glas.

Es gab auch mal Zeiten, dass man sie nicht hinter Glas packen musste, aber ich kann mir durchaus vorstellen, dass einzelne Gäste keine Lust hatten, sich selbst einen Reiseführer zu kaufen und dann einfach einzelne Darstellungen abgerissen und sie in ihren Rucksack gepackt haben... So einen großen Bilderrahmen in den Rucksack zu packen dürfte ja nun etwas schwieriger sein.



They had times that they must not pack it behind glass but I could imagine that single guests who had no intention to buy a guide book just took away the single presentations and put it in their bagpacks... But such a big picture frame might be difficult to pack.

What was making me upset for a couple of days and nothing happened although I reported it: the botton for the going down did not work. But nothing happened. But not until the very last day either.



Was mich seit Tagen ärgert, aber leider passiert da nichts, obwohl ich das gemeldet habe: der Knopf nach unten funktioniert nicht. Aber leider passiert da nichts. Auch nicht bis zum letzten Tag der Reise.

Ich hatte mir extra notiert, in welchem Treppenhaus ich mich befinde.

We went for lunch into Cagney's. Maybe they opened earlier or many guests were there already 12.00 hrs sharp. But everything was in smoke.



Wir gehen mittags ins Cagney's essen. Entweder sie haben früher geöffnet, oder jede Menge Gäste waren bereits punkt 12.00 Uhr schon da. Allerdings ist alles zugeräuchert.

Wir lassen uns einen Tisch an der Backbordseite geben und da haben wir Glück, dass eben wegen des Ausfalls der Dunstabzugshaube der seitliche Notausgang offen steht und ich daher schnell rein und raus springen kann zum Fotografieren.



We let them gave us a table at the portside and so we had luck that the air absorbtion was not working so the side emergency exit was open and I could quickly jump out and and in to take pictures.

Each of us took only a small bite.

Keine aufwändigen Vor- oder Nachspeisen. Entweder Salat...

Draußen gibt es anscheinend schon wieder Paella...



Outside they had Paella again.



So genießen wir die Einfahrt auf Istanbul. Leider ein wenig diesig. Aber alles gut zu erkennen dank Photoshop Elements. So kommen wir direkt an der Skyline von Istanbul mit der sog. Blauen Moschee (gibt es mindestens achtmal auf der Welt und die Istanbuler heißt korrekt Sultan-Ahmed-Moschee), der Hagia Sophia und Topkapi-Palast. Das Cruise Terminal befindet sich in Karaköy. Und so können wir beim Anlegen direkt in den Bosporus, in das Marmarameer und in das Goldene Horn blicken. Einer der schönsten Lagen eines Kreuzfahrtterminals weltweit.



So we enjoyed the arrival in Istanbul. Unfortunately it was a littly misty. But thanks to Photoshop Elements you could see the attractions very clear. So we passed directly the Istanbul skyline with the Blue Mosque (you had it at least eight times around the world and the one in Istanbul is named correctly Sultan-Ahmed-Mosque), the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi-Palace. The cruise terminal is located in Karaköy. So you could easily from the pier the Bosphorus, the Marmara Sea and the Golden Horn. One the nicest location of any cruise terminal worldwide.

This part of the port is now in a transition and due to a city development project this part of the town will experience some improvements.



Dieser Teil des Hafens ist im Umbruch und soll im Rahmen eines Stadtentwicklungsprojektes sich weiterentwickeln.

Das Kreuzfahrtterminal soll jedoch an dieser Stelle bleiben.



But the cruise terminal should stay at this location.







Wir gehen in die Star Bar, die tagsüber als Concierge Lounge genutzt wird.



We went to the Star Bar which was used as Concierge Lounge during the day time.

Concierge Mark was assembling all guests who wanted to use the VIP-service.



Concierge Mark versammelt hier die Gäste, die den VIP-Service nutzen dürfen.



And we walked behind the bar to leave the ship down by a crew elevator.



Und weiter geht es hinter die Bar und danach mit den Crew-Fahrstühlen direkt runter.



No belly dance group - only Margharita was trying to create some Oriental atmosphere.



Es gibt kein Bauchtanzgruppe - nur Margharita versucht sich darin für etwas orientalische Stimmung zu sorgen.







In the terminal we saw Shenny again. Obviously she was feeling better. This time we did not have any landing cards but our ship cards only. They scan the cards and so we were recorded by an electronic way to record what we were ashore. Compared to Izmir none of the shops were occupied.



Im Terminal sehen wir Shenny wieder, der es anscheinend wieder besser geht. Dieses Mal brauchen wir keine Landgangskarten, sondern nur unsere Bordkarten, die direkt optisch eingelesen werden. So werden wir elektronisch erfasst, dass wir an Land sind. Im Gegensatz zu Izmir ist kein einziger Laden besetzt.

Die Beschilderung ist sehr gut.

You should find the tram by walking about 100 yards. That was true.



In 100 m soll man die Straßenbahn finden. Stimmt.

Nur zum Taxi muss man nach links.



Only if you are looking for a taxi you need to turn left.

Mich fasziniert die Bebauung direkt gegenüber vom Cruise Terminal.



I was fascinated of the buildings around the cruise terminal.

And in front of the cruise terminal our guide Farum Ayaz was waiting.



Und vor dem Kreuzfahrtterminal wartet unser Führer Faruk Ayaz.

Für den 1. Tag hatten wir noch ein Fahrzeug bestellt. Am 2. Tag wollten wir uns mit der Straßenbahn bewegen.



For the 1st day we booked a vehicle. For the 2nd day we wanted to move around by tram.

Sigi discovered a Yang-Ming-Ship. So she lost her interest for the Topkapi-Palace at the adjustant side of the vehicle.



Sigi entdeckt ein Yang-Ming-Schiff. Der Topkapi-Palast auf der anderen Seite verlor jeglichen Reiz.

Ich gebe zu, dass ich in den ersten 30 Minuten der Tour schon ziemlich verärgert war. Wir hatten ja Deniz erklärt, dass sich die Situation geändert hat und wir möglichst wenig steil hoch oder runterlaufen wollten.



I need to say that the first 30 minutes of the tour made me very angry. We explained Deniz that the situation had changed and we need avoid any kind of ascents and descents.

Unfortunately there was driving restrictions in the ancient Sultan-Ahmet-District. Normally it is a good idea. Less good was that we had to walk around 200 yards upwards steeply and other vehicles were obviously allowed to enter the zone.



Leider gibt es in dem Sultan-Ahmet-Distrikt Fahrbeschränkungen, was an sich gut ist. Weniger gut war jedoch, wenn man dann sah, dass wir 200 m steil bergauf laufen mussten und andere Fahrzeuge mit Kreuzfahrern durchkam.

Ich hätte ja auch die 20,00 TRY zusätzlich bezahlt, wenn das Fahrzeug dann hätte hier parken können. Wir waren wirklich für jeden Meter dankbar gewesen, den wir nicht bergauf oder bergab hätten laufen müssen.



I would pay the additional fee of 20.00 TRY if there was a chance to park the car here. Every single feet we must not walk up or down was highly appreciated.

We arrived at the backside of Hagia Sophia.



Wir kommen zunächst auf die Rückseite der Hagia Sophia.

Aber irgendwie hat es NCL schon ziemlich blöd gestaltet: Montags ist nämlich die Hagia Sophia geschlossen und dienstags der Topkapi-Palast. Mit dem Erfolg, dass jetzt alle am Topkapi-Palast sind und morgen alle in der Hagia Sophia. Was für ein Glück, dass kein anderes Kreuzfahrtschiff noch im Hafen lag.



Somehow it was set a little stupid: On Mondays Hagia Sophia is closed and on Tuesdays the Topkapi-Palace. Now you had all of the cruisers in the Topkapi-Palace and the next day you had them all in Hagia Sophia. We were so lucky that there was no other cruise ship in port.
