Seetag/Day at Sea 2.2 auf der/on NORWEGIAN ESCAPE

Wie bei Norwegian üblich: Es gibt nicht ein einzelnes Hauptrestaurant an Bord, sondern drei "kleinere" (verglichen zur ALLURE OF THE SEAS). Auf der einen Seite das Savor und vis-à-vis das Taste. Eigentlich so ziemlich gespiegelt. In der Regel werden sie zeitversetzt geöffnet, so dass zur Kernzeit mit der stärksten Nachfrage alle drei Restaurants offen sind und während der Randzeiten auch schon mal eines geschlossen ist. Ich finde das Konzept gut. Wir gehen zum Frühstück ins Taste. Neu ist das Angebot mit täglich wechselnden Gerichten. Viele kleine Änderungen.



As usual with Norwegian: There was not one single main dining room on board, but three "smaller" (compared to ALLURE OF THE SEAS). On the one side the Savor and opposite the Taste. Actually pretty much mirrored. Usually they were open with a time delay, so that the core time with the strongest demand all three restaurants were open and during off-peak times sometimes even one was closed. I found the concept well. We went for breakfast to the Taste. Another new feature is the offer which is changed daily. Many small changes.

The new tableware looked somehow a bit retro ... from 70's??? You had to ask targeted for breakfast pastries today.

Ganz früher gab es sogar einen Tablettservice für Frühstücksgebäck... Damals NORWEGIAN SUN 2008...

Es war das allererste Frühstück auf der allerersten Fahrt. Dass nicht alles perfekt laufen würde, war uns schon klar, bevor wir überhaupt einschiffen. Wir sind ziemlich die ersten Gäste. Als der Betrieb anläuft, klappt es sehr gut. Bruno bekam noch eine Kanne Kaffee für den Tisch. Gäste die später kamen nicht. Mutter und Sohn (erwachsen) meckern darüber, dass sie keine Kaffeekanne haben. Wir haben wirklich Glück, dass bei uns alles eigentlich so läuft, wie wir es von Norwegian gewohnt sind. Deswegen schreibe ich unserer Kellnerin eine Nachricht, dass unser Nachbartisch auf deutsch meckert und sie möglichst schnell denen auch eine Kanne bringen soll.



It was the very first breakfast on the very first voyage. That this would not run in perfection, had been already clear to us before we embarked ever. We were pretty much the first guests. When the operation started, it worked very well. Bruno got even a pot of coffee for the table. Guests who came later did not get. Mother and son (adult) complained about the fact that they had no coffee pot. We were really lucky that everything we knew from Norwegian really worked well. That was why I wrote our waitress a message that our neighbors next table complained in German and they should get a pot as quickly as possible.

New was this butter jars. It looked classy.

Ich bekomme schon mein Glas mit Eis für meinen Eistee. Cranberry-Saft gibt es selbstverständlich kostenlos zum Frühstück bei Royal Caribbean... ach nein - ich bin ja jetzt bei Norwegian. Bei Royal Caribbean sollte ich ja dafür bezahlen.

Seinen Naturjoghurt bekommt er ohne Probleme und selbstverständlich nicht in einem Pappbecher.

They had a new organic tea variety in their assortment. My neighbor at the table (son) wanted to know from me how I liked the tea. Man hat eine neue Bio-Teesorte im Sortiment. Mein Tischnachbar (Sohn) will unbedingt von mir wissen, wie ich den Tee finde. Da ich meinen Tee eh zum Eistee umarbeite, spielt es eh für mich keine Rolle. Später hatte Sohn seinen Kabinensteward als "Kabinenfuzzi" bezeichnet. Da musste ich mich doch mal melden, und ihn aufklären, dass man ihn Steward nennt.

Mein Platz ist so leer, weil man mir meine Serviette auf den Schoss gelegt hat... Etwas, was ich zuvor auf dem letzten Schiff vermisst habe...

Und ich halte mein Versprechen, das ich Kapitän Kim Karlsson gegeben habe und bin neutral gekleidet und mache keine Werbung für andere Gesellschaften. Was mich allerdings total genervt hat: meine deutschen Landsleute, die sich nicht benehmen können. Es ist die erste Fahrt. Wir sind die ersten Frühstücksgäste. Es lief nichts wirklich rund. Aber durch das Restaurant zu brüllen, und andere Tische zu bitten, dass man doch bitte denen schon mal die Essensabfälle rübergeben soll, finde ich ziemlich unangebracht. Mir taten die Crew-Mitglieder irgendwie leid.

Wir wollen Kaffee trinken. Es gibt eine große Bar, bei der auch bedient wird. Während man auf der NORWEGIAN JADE am Tisch bedient wurde, gibt es hier für Kaffee nur noch einen Stand zu selbstholen. Macarons für 2.00 USD (plus plus) das Stück... Dafür kann ich ja schon Aktien von Sprüngli kaufen... Alle stehen dann an und beweisen Geduld. Nur einer Mitarbeiterin aus der Norwegian-Zentrale geht es nicht schnell genug. Bruno bekommt mit, dass sie den Barmitarbeiter in der Öffentlichkeit als lahm beschimpft. Regel Nummer 1 eines guten Managements, die hier verletzt wurde: Niemals in der Öffentlichkeit einen Mitarbeiter kritisieren. Aber vielleicht spiegelt das ja den neuen Geist von Norwegian wieder. Schade: nur auf Anfrage bekommt man eine Porzellantasse. Sonst gibt es nur den Coffee-to-go-Becher. Arme Umwelt.



We wanted to have some coffee. There was a large bar which was well serviced. While you were served on NORWEGIAN JADE at the table, here was only a pick-point for coffee for self-service. Macarons: 2.00 USD (plus plus) the piece... For that price, I might buy shares of Sprüngli ... all were queueing and showed patience . Only one staff member from the Norwegian Corparate Office did not run fast enough. Bruno became witness that she insulted the bar staff in the public as lame. Rule number 1 of good management, which never should been violated: Never criticize a staff member in the public. But maybe that reflected indeed the new spirit of Norwegian another time. Too bad: only on request you get a porcelain cup. Otherwise you get it only in coffee-to-go cups. Poor environment.

We were spoiled by Royal Caribbean! Their Internet service was fantastic. TWO DEVICES in the Ku-band (High-speed Internet) for only 22.50 USD per day. We really loved to pay for, because the performance for the price was great!



Wir waren ja durch Royal Caribbean versaut worden! Deren Internet-Angebot war einfach fantastisch. ZWEI GERÄTE im Ku-Band (Hochgeschwindigkeitsinternet) für nur 22,50 USD pro Tag. Das haben wir wirklich gerne gezahlt, weil die Leistung für den Preis stimmte!

Bei Norwegian verlangt man 30 USD/Tag pro Gerät für langsames Internet.

An immediate logout was not possible. When we complained we were told that just too many guests were here to use the internet in the atrium at the same tim. We said only that it did not matter where you tried it, whether in public areas or with us in the cabin: It was the same everywhere chaos.



Ein Ausloggen ist sofort nicht möglich. Als wir das reklamieren, meint man nur zu uns, dass eben zu viele Gäste hier im Atrium gleichzeitig im Netz sind. Wir meinten nur, dass es gar keine Rolle spielt, wo man es probiert: ob in öffentlichen Räumen oder bei uns in der Kabine. Es ist überall das gleiche Chaos.

Angesichts der Kosten, nutzen wir unseren Router, der aus einem Internet-Signal mehrere macht. Aber auch er kommt damit absolut nicht klar.

Da man die Pässe nur am 1. Tag buchen konnte, musste man dann den Rest der Reise für 0,95 USD/Minute surfen. Minuten Pakete wurden nicht mehr angeboten. Normalerweise werden dann kleinere Pakete angeboten, so dass man trotzdem preiswerter surfen kann.

Andererseits: die Reichweite vom Internetsignal der NORWEGIAN ESCAPE ist so gut: während das Schiff bereits auf dem Weg nach Miami auf dem Nordatlantik ist (und heute noch immer): Selbst wenn ich in der Schweiz bin, bekomme ich die Hinweise, dass ich wieder mit dem Bordnetz verbunden bin und wenn ich das Bordnetz wieder verlasse. Sie tun wirklich alles, damit ich Norwegian nicht vergesse und mich über sie jeden Tag freuen kann: Hat jemand eine Ahnung, wie ich die Mitteilungen von Norwegian abstelle??? iPhone 6 XL.

Die Latitudes Platin und Gold-Mitglieder sind ja die wichtigsten Gäste und sollen hier auf der Tafel geehrt werden. Aus technischen Gründen steht keiner von uns hier auf der Tafel. Statt die Tafel abzuschalten, wundert sich jeder Platin und Gold-Mitglied, dass man nicht darauf steht. Normalerweise bekomme ich ein Willkommensbrief in die Kabine. Aber hier gibt es gar nichts. Denen an Bord ist es jeodch egal.

Ich denke gerne an Omar auf der NORWEGIAN SKY zurück. Die Reisen sind immer kurz und es war gar kein Problem gewesen seinen Service in Anspruch zu nehmen.

Wir sind zumindest mit dem iConcierge von Norwegian angeschlossen und können uns so mit anderen Kreuzfahrern austauschen, aber leider sind wir auch mit der Schiffsleitung verbunden. Eine Nachricht vom Sicherheitsoffizier kommt.

Es geht eigentlich ganz schnell: alle deutschsprachigen Gäste auf die eine Seite vom Taste und die englischsprachigen auf die andere. Der Safety Officer spricht auf Englisch vor und eine von der Rezeption spricht in Deutsch nach. Leider gab es wohl keine Absprachen, dass jetzt im Taste die Seenotrettungsübung stattfindet, Ich glaube, dass ich in Zukunft nur noch zum Nachsitzen gehe. Ist nicht so nervig.

Die Rettungswesten gibt es nicht mehr in der Kabine. Allerdings ist es ein neuer Typ, der noch zwischen den Beinen und durch einen Arm durchgezogen werden muss... Kann ja bei Männern schon etwas unangenehm sein. Deswegen will doch mal selbst die Rettungsweste anlegen und ausprobieren. Man muss tatsächlich ein paar Sekunden aufmerksamer sein!

The Manhattan Room lernen wir schon früher kennen. Wir müssen wieder die Einreisekontrolle für Großbritannien vor Ankunft machen, da ja Großbritannien nicht Mitglied des Teils des Schengen-Abkommens ist, das das Reisen ohne Grenzkontrollen regelt. Dementsprechend ist schon alles vorbereitet. Obwohl alle Ansagen auch in Deutsch kommen: viele hören einfach nicht zu und sie müssen später namentlich einzeln aufgerufen werden. Alle Bordkarten werden am Eingang eingelesen. So hat man gut die Übersicht, wer da war und wer nicht.



The Manhattan Room we got to know earlier that day. Mittags geht es in Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. Ich hatte es mal zuvor in Grand Turks gesehen, als wir mit der EURODAM über Neujahr unterwegs waren. Eigentlich ist das nichts für mich. Es gibt nur wenige vom Norwegian Management, für die ich mich freiwillig in die Kälte setze (es gibt nur draußen Plätze) und für die ich freiwillig dieses amerikanische Essen freiwillig esse. Ich sollte jedoch meine Meinung dazu abgeben: Ich fand es sehr gut. Ich würde sogar eine CoverCharge einführen, damit der Zugang etwas beschränkt wird. So in der Höhe wie bei Johnny Rocket's bei Royal Caribbean. Wobei ich allerdings das Essen hier weitaus besser von der Qualität und Auswahl finde, als ein Angebot von Johnny Rocket's bei Royal Caribbean. Es war das erste Mal, dass man für zahlende Gäste das Restaurant aufgemacht hat. Deswegen gab es Wartezeiten, aber ich fand es absolut o.k..

Auf der NORWEGIAN JADE habe ich ja einen Heiratsantrag bekommen. Und dieses Mal mache ich einen. Auf einem Hamburger habe die frittierten Zwiebeln entdeckt, die ich von meinem ersten Besuch im Cagney's auf der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT kenne. Irgendwann wurden sie dann abgeschafft. Und jetzt hatte ich sie auf einem Hamburger entdeckt. Für eine Extraportion ganz für mich alleine, war ich sogar bereit einen Heiratsantrag zu machen. Dafür haben wir auch alle gemeinsam herzhaft gelacht. Ich brauche nicht unbedingt Hummer oder Kaviar oder Champagner, um glücklich zu sein. Nur jemanden, der auch bereit ist, eine Extrameile zu laufen, um mich glücklich zu machen. Mit ganz kleinen Dingen: wie gebratenen Zwiebeln oder einer Drachenfrucht.



On NORWEGIAN JADE I got a wedding proposal. And this time I made one. On a Hamburger I discovered some fried onions that I knew from my first visit in Cagney's on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT. In the afternoon we saw briefly the O'Sheehan's. Too bad that there was no longer chicken soup available like in Blue Lagoon Café. But the soup was not bad at all. Above all I could have canceled the search for Shepherd's Pie in Wales. They had some on board. However it was a portion for dwarves like me. For me it was perfectly enough.



Nachmittags geht es mal kurz in O'Sheehan's. Schade, dass es keine Hühnersuppe mehr gibt, wie damals im Blue Lagoon Café. Aber die Suppe ist auch nicht schlecht. Vor allem hätte ich mir die Suche nach Shepherd's Pie in Wales schenken können. Hier hätte es auch an Bord gegeben. Allerdings eine Portion für Zwerge wie mich. Für mich hat es gereicht.

Christian aus Düsseldorf kenne ich vom kreuzfahrten-treff.de und aus Facebook. Als ich noch live vom Schiff gebloggt hatte, bat er mich mal ein Schiffsmodell zu besorgen. Er hatte irgendwann auf Facebook mitbekommen, dass wir auf dem Weg nach Mönchengladbach waren und bot uns an, uns mit dem Auto vom Düsseldorfer Hauptbahnhof mitzunehmen. In diesem Zusammenhang hat er uns gefragt, ob wir an Bord treffen würden. Da wir uns immer über nette Mitfahrer freuen und er ein Studio bewohnt, das ich mir mal in Ruhe angucken kann, sage ich natürlich sofort zu. Die Kabine ist für eine Person, die sich nicht dauernd aufhält, gut geeignet. Ziemlich viele technische Schnickschnacks. Nur die Toilette ist etwas eng, wenn man lange Beine hat.

The cabin was well suited for a person who is not staying permanently inside. Quite a lot of technical gimmicks. Only the toilet is a bit narrow if you have long legs.

I went shopping and that was a multiple offense. We just returned from the QUEEN MARY 2 back: 20 % British VAT on the purchase. ALLURE OF THE SEAS 21 % Spanish VAT (although we boarded in Civitavecchia, but the start of the journey was Barcelona). They followed EU-Directive 2006/112 EC: It applies to intra-Community cruises without intermediate stops outside the EU: VAT port of departure counts. In our case it was Hamburg and is located in Germany. And so actually 19%. However: 25% were calculated. As Norwegian in Wiesbaden wrote: 20 % UK VAT plus 5 % Duty Tax. Unfortunately they did not noticed that the Duty Tax only obtained when you are in British territorial waters and the ship comes from a third country. Update 01/2016: AFTER RETURN OF THE QUEEN VICTORIA Hamburg - Southampton: We paid only 19%. Just as it is regulated by law.

Abends geht es in The Manhattan Room zum Abendessen. Für uns wurde ein schöner Tisch reserviert. Es war ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt: 1. Im Gegensatz damals auf der NORWEGIAN EPIC spielt dieses Mal eine tolle Jazz-Band mit "Take Five", "You take the A-Train" und vielen vielen anderen Jazz-Hits, die ich gerne höre und 2. weil wir schon einen Tipp vorab bekommen haben, dass es heute Abend ein tolles Menü gibt und man nicht unbedingt in ein Zuzahlrestaurant gehen sollte. Auch hier ist mal wieder manches von Royal Caribbean kopiert worden: 15 USD für Prime-Rib, 20 USD für Hummer und 25 USD für Surf und Turf plus 18%.



We went into The Manhattan Room for dinner. For us a nice table was reserved. It was a very nice stay: 1. Unlike last time on NORWEGIAN EPIC they had a great jazz band playing "Take Five", "You take the A-Train" and many other jazz hits that I like to listen to and 2. because we had already received a recommendation in advance that there would be a great evening menu that night and we should not necessarily go to an alternative dining venue. Again they copied something bad from Royal Caribbean: 15 USD for Prime Rib, 20 USD for Lobster and 25 USD for Surf and Turf plus 18 %.

The show "Million Dollar Quartet" would start at 22:00 hrs. Two tickets were arranged by the concierge and another was taken care by the secretary of the hotel manager because I did not want to call the concierge again.



Die Show "Million Dollar Quartet" startet um 22.00 Uhr. Zwei Karten wurden vom Concierge besorgt und eine weitere hat dann die Sekretärin des Hoteldirektors besorgt, weil ich keine Lust hatte, nochmals beim Concierge anzurufen.

Wenigstens hat man wieder Platz für die Beine im Gegensatz zur Jewel-Klasse.

The show was about a jam session in 1956 with Sun Records. It was Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins whom I never heard about before.



Die Show handelt von einer Jam-Session im Jahre 1956 bei den Sun Records. Dabei waren Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash sowie Carl Perkins, der mir allerdings nichts sagt.

Unter dem Theaterboden spüren wir die Bässe und wenn es ruhiger aus, auch die Musik aus dem Supper-Club. Bekommen die von uns nun auch alles mit? Das würde mich schon ärgern, wenn man für die Veranstaltung extra gezahlt hat.



Among the theater floor we felt the bass and if it was quiet we could also hear the music from the Supper Club. Did they also notice the noices from ou vernue? That would annoy me if I had to pay extra for such an event.

Bruno went after 10 minutes. Christian and I about 15 minutes thereafter. I hear now and then Elvis Presley. Now and then a song by Jerry Lee Lewis and few songs of Johnny Cash I like too. But 1 1/2 hours and only the four would be somehow too much to me. In the first 15 minutes I did experience any sparks to let me stay any longer.



Bruno geht nach 10 Minuten. Christian und ich nach etwa 15 Minuten. Ich höre mal gerne ab und zu Elvis Presley. Ab und zu mal einen Song von Jerry Lee Lewis und einige Lieder von Johnny Cash mag ich auch. Aber 1 1/2 Stunden nur die vier wären wir dann doch zuviel. In den ersten 15 Minuten ist der Funke nicht übergesprungen.

Wir wollen noch etwas trinken. Golden Octaves singen in der Atrium Bar. Genau als wir ankommen, machen sie eine Pause. Die Sängerin hat eine tolle Stimme. Von ihr würde ich gerne mal "Midnight Train to Georgia" hören. Leider kommt mir ein Anzugträger dazwischen, der ihr wohl die Anweisung gibt, die Leute zum Tanzen zu bringen. Es kommen so die Disco-Hits der 70-er Jahre. Leider steht keiner auf (bis auf ein kleines Mädchen im Alter von 5), um vorne zu tanzen. Nach 5-6 Liedern, die ich zwar alle kenne, aber auf die ich keine Lust mehr habe, stehe ich auf gehe. Sie ruft mir noch hinterher, dass sie es nicht vergessen hätte. Ich habe den Eindruck schon und habe keine Lust mehr noch länger zu warten. Normalerweise tippe ich 10-20 USD für erfüllte Songwünsche, je nach dem wie häufig und gut meine Anfragen erfüllt werden. Aber ich muss ja noch die 6% MEHR-Wertsteuer vom Einkauf finanzieren.



We wanted to have a drink. Golden Octaves were singing in the Atrium Bar. Just when we arrived, they took a break. The singer had a great voice. From her I would love to hear "Midnight Train to Georgia" Unfortunately a suit carrier came in between, probably gave her instructions to make people dancing. So she came as the disco hits of the 70s. Unfortunately, none (except for a little girl age of 5) is on the dance floor. After 5-6 songs which I all know, I was tired and on leave. She called after me yet that she would not forget it. I felt that she did and had no desire to wait any longer. Normally I tip 10-20 USD for playing my requested songs, depending on how often and well my requests were fulfilled. But I had still the 6 % MORE value tax to refinance.
