Tag/Day 1.3 auf der/on NORWEGIAN GEM in Barcelona, Spain

Da wir erst um 13.30 Uhr die Kabinen können, werden wir gebeten uns ins Cagney's Steakhouse zu begeben, um dort unser Mittagessen einzunehmen. Die Karte wechselt mittags nicht. Nur die Tagessuppe. Heute gab es wieder die Kichererbsensuppe.



As we can use the cabin from 1.30 pm we were requested to see Cagney's Steakhouse to have our lunch. The menu will not change day by day just the soup of the day. Today is Split Peas Soup Day.

My veal ragout with noodles was not mines. But with mashed potato which our very Austrian-charming stewardes Astrid served, it was nice.



Mein Kalbsragout mit Nudeln war nicht so meines. Aber mit Kartoffelpürree, den mir die charmante österreichische Stewardess Astrid serviert hat, schmeckte es sogar.

Die Bananentorte war sehr extrem amerikanisch. Aber das Orangensorbet entschädigte: einfach lecker.



The Banana Cream Pie was very American but we got a good compensation due to this wonderful Orange Sorbet.

You have to order the brownies to get access to the Macademia-Nut-Icecream. As we are very tired it was a calm afternoon which was only interrupted by a "classical" muster life drill (with life vests) in Blue Lagoon Café. Originally we had plans to visit Park Güell but we did not go.



Nur diese Brownies musste man nehmen, um das leckere Macademianusseis zu bekommen. Da wir noch ziemlich müde sind, wird es ein ruhiger Nachmittag, der nur durch die Seenotrettungsübung (in klassischer Form mit Schwimmweste) im Blue Lagoon Café unterbrochen wird. Auf den ursprünglich geplanten Ausflug zum Park Güell verzichten wir.

Die Weinpakete sucht man sich individuell aus und bekommt 20% Rabatt auf 6-8 Flaschen.

In Grand Pacific we had a great sursprise: Adina whom we know from NORWEGIAN DREAM and Luiza, whom we know from NORWEGIAN SPIRIT and NORWEGIAN JADE (sorry - only in German available) welcomed us. I am more than happy. Luiza promised that it works with my salad this time which she owes me for two years. I laughed and hope that she will not keeping her promise as I will have good reason to search again for her. Unfortunately we also learned that Ramono whom we know from NORWEGIAN JEWEL (sorry - only in German) and NORWEGIAN DREAM had a very severe car accident on the way to the airport for her work on NORWEGIAN GEM. Now she has her rehabilitation. In case she has an occassion to read these lines: All the best wishes for a soon recovery from Bruno and me!!! One more reason to again with NCL and to check how good she is and let her pamper us. Some additional explaination to Luiza: I met her on a 1-Nighter on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT and I had a very late dinner at Cagney's Steakhouse. I love to observe attentive crew members who have their eyes everywhere and before you can raise your hand to call a waiter she is already there to read your wishes from your eyes. She has a view when something was not alright and was wondering why I did not like my Ceasars Salad. Her offer was to make a new one just for me as I like. As I did not want any salad anymore she let me go after the promise that she will get a chance to prepare a salad for. At this time she was Assistent Maître D'. We met her again on our last year's NORWEGIAN JADE-cruise in the Med Sea. Now she was Maître D' and she is really one who deserved it. It could be the sailing of the TITANIC: be sure she (and her complete team) will make sure that you will get the very best service until the end.



Im Grand Pacific erwartet uns mich eine riesige Überraschung: Adina, die wir von der NORWEGIAN DREAM kennen und Luiza, die wir von der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT und NORWEGIAN JADE kennen begrüßen uns. Die Freude ist groß. Luiza verspricht mir auch, dass es dieses Mal mit dem Salat klappt, den sie mir schuldet. Ich lache und meine, dass es hoffentlich nicht klappt und ich wieder gute Gründe hätte, sie wieder zu suchen. Leider erfahren wir auch, dass Ramona, die wir ebenfalls von der NORWEGIAN JEWEL und NORWEGIAN DREAM kennen, einen schweren Verkehrsunfall auf dem Weg zum Flughafen zum Einsatz auf der NORWEGIAN GEM hatte. Derzeit befindet sie sich in der Reha. Sollte sie das lesen: gute Besserung!!! Ein Grund mehr wieder mit NCL zu fahren und zu gucken, wie es ihr geht und hoffentlich wieder von ihr verwöhnen lassen.

Black Bean Soup... unfortunately no more pepper-service... you have your own on your table.



Schwarze Bohnensuppe... leider nicht mehr mit dem Pfefferservice... sondern der steht jetzt nur noch am Tisch.

Ich hatte wieder meine Blätterteigpastete mit Käse und Pilzen. Aber man merkt, dass wohl Personal für die Feinarbeit fehlt, damit es richtig nett aussieht.



I had again this starter which I had many times before with cheese and mushrooms but you see the cost cuttings: no more manpower to bring it really in a nice shape. But same good taste.

My "wife" had fish... (It's a joke for the German forum reader: one other blogger's wife had always fish and it was good... on MSC... our preferred line for doing diet as you can loose 3 lbs. on 11 nights and learn how to appreciate the service with NCL if you get be treated like with them.

... und ich hatte mir dieses Mal das Huftsteak bestellt, das aber sehr gut zubereitet war.



... and I had my Sirloin which was prepared very well.

Of course they ran for me an extra mile to get some green tea. But they would have run the extra mile for any other guest as well.



Selbstverständlich wurde für mich grüner Tee besorgt. Sie hätten es aber auch für jeden anderen Gast besorgt.

Dafür gab es Blattgold auf dem Dessert. So schlecht scheint es NCL wirtschaftlich noch nicht zu gehen...



True gold on your dessert. I cannot be so bad with NCL economically.

I got again my Vanilla Soufflé but now with Grand Marnier-Sauce which I like more than the Whiskey-Sauce before.



Ich bekomme wieder mein Vanille Soufflé, aber statt Whiskey-Sauce gibt es nun Grand Marnier-Sauce, die mir besser schmeckt.

Vermutlich sind wir zu oft in den Zuzahlrestaurants, aber die Parade der Köche erleben wir zu ersten Mal.



Maybe we were eating to often in the Alternative Dining venues but the parade of the cooks we had the very first time on NCL.

She and all service-crew-members did a great job so far: we feel extremely to be friends on board.



Sie und alle Service-Mitarbeiter auf dem Schiff haben bislang eine großartige Arbeit geleistet: denn wir fühlen uns als Freunde an Bord bislang extrem wohl.
