Tag/Day 4.2 auf der/on NORWEGIAN JADE in Piräus/Piraeus, Greece

Auf der Fahrt nach Salamina kommt man an sehr vielen aufgelegten Fähren vorbei.



On the way to Salamina you are passing many ferries which are laid-off.









Furthermore you are also passing the Container-Terminal. Just for Sigi I tried to identified a Yang-Ming-Container to make her happy.



Außerdem noch am Container-Hafen. Für Sigi versuche ich einen Yang-Ming-Container zu identifizieren, damit sie sich rundum wohl fühlt.

When I met her the very first time she was THOMSON DESTINY.



Beim ersten Mal, als ich sie gesehen habe, war es die THOMSON DESTINY.

Nun es war nicht viel zu erkennen, aber irgendwie kommt mir die Form des Schornsteins bekannt vor. Nur mit dem Schiffsnamen kann ich nichts anfangen: SALAMIS FILOXENIA.



It was not so much to see but somehow the shape of the funnel was familiar to me. But with the ship's name I was unable to identify: SALAMIS FILOXENIA.

Between all the ferry boats it did not look like a "classic" ferry boat.



Zwischen all den vielen Fährschiffen, sah sie gar nicht aus, wie ein "klassisches" Fährschiff.







And I finally I remember her again: VAN GOGH.



Nun erkenne ich sie wieder: VAN GOGH.

Vor kurzem erst in Santorini gesehen: AEGEAN PARADISE

When we sailed with her it was DELPHIN VOYAGER.



Wir waren mit ihr als DELPHIN VOYAGER unterwegs.

Es ging wieder an Land... mitten in das Geschruschel des Fährhafens von Piräus. Mitten zwischen LKWs, Autos, Passagiere...



Back ashore... just in the crowd of the ferry port of Piraeus with all the trucks, cars and passengers...

You should let a sleeping dog lie... but it was somehow too cold to take a sunbath...



Schlafende Hunde soll man ja nicht wecken... aber eigentlich ist es zu kalt, um sich zu sonnen...

Wie kommt man nun zum Flughafen? Links oder geradeaus?



How do you get to the airport? Left or straight?





I went to the place I saw many times from the ship and I assumed you can take a lot of good pictures as there was no fence.



Ich fahre zu dem Lokal, das ich schon oft vom Schiff aus gesehen habe und von dem man vermutlich gut fotografieren kann, weil kein Zaun davor ist.

Es geht bis zum Löwen von Piräus. So heißt übrigens auch das Lokal TO LIONTARI TOU PEIRAIA.



I went to the Lion of Piraeus. Buy the way it was the name of the place TO LIONTARI TOU PEIRAIA.

From here you could really see the ships arriving and leaving subject you are not on a ship yourself and dock at Terminal B. Those ships are not passing here.



Von hier kann man wirklich schön die Schiffe ein- und auslaufen sehen, wenn man nicht selbst auf einem Schiff ist bzw. ausgerechnet am Terminal B anlegt. Diese Schiffe fahren hier nicht vorbei.

Allerdings lernt man auch den Begriff Inflation kennen... Der Kaffee erreicht ja schon fast ein Niveau wie in Florenz.



Now I learned what the word inflation means... The coffee was more or less on the price level of Florence.

Subject you are looking for the toilets you have to cross the street.



Wenn man die Toiletten allerdings sucht: über die Straße.

Und dann gegenüber der Kirche ist das "Hauptlokal".



And then adjustent to the church you find the "main location".

Hier ein Plan, den ich am Terminal mitbekommen habe.

If you want to get to Terminal B you need to find a bus with the final destination PEIRAIAS PAREMA.



Wenn man zum Terminal B will: dann muss man einen Bus finden, der nach PEIRAIAS PERAMA fährt finden.

Im Bus muss man die Tickets abstempeln. Man sieht den Bussen an: alle für die Olympischen Spiele 2004 angeschafft... und seitdem leider wenig gemacht...



In the bus you had to validate/cancel/punch your tickets. You could see that the busses were bought for the Olympic Games 2004... and since then not very much was maintained.

One time punch.



Einmal entwerten.

Und sie gelten 90 Minuten mit Bussen (außer Flughafen-Bus), O-Busse, Straßenbahnen, U-Bahn (nur bis Koropi auf der Flughafen-Linie) und S-Bahn.



And they are vaild for 90 minutes with busses (exept airport-lines), trolley-busses, trams, metro (only to Koropi on the airport-line) and commuter trains.

Do not forget to push the stop-botton if you want the bus stopping at the next bus stop.



Nicht vergessen, dass man auf den Stop-Knopf drücken muss, wenn man will, dass der Bus an der nächsten Haltestelle hält.

Und es hat geklappt.



It worked.

The stop at the Terminal A (most of the cruise ships arrive here!) is TELONEIO. Due to a discussion in the German forum regarding bus route 40 towards Syntagma-Square: This bus does not stop here.



Die Haltestelle am Terminal A (hier kommen die meisten Kreuzfahrtschiffe an!) heißt TELONEIO. Aufgrund einer Diskussion wegen Buslinie 40 zum Syntagma Platz: Der hält hier gar nicht.

So fahre ich erst mal in meinem Bus eben weiter bis zur Endhaltestelle, die eben direkt vor dem Löwen von Piräus bzw. Terminal B liegt.



So I had to go with my bus to the terminal stop at the Lion of Piraeus or Terminal B.

If you want to take bus 40 you need to board at the bus stop opposite of the water line at AFETIRIA.



Wenn man Buslinie 40 nehmen will, muss man die Haltestelle AFETIRIA suchen, die GEGENÜBER der Wasserseite liegt.

Hier fährt Buslinie 40 zum Syntagma-Platz ab.

Nicht gerade hübsche Umgebung.



Not a very nice neighbourhood.

At 12.30 hrs I was supposed to be at Syntagma-Square.



Um 12.30 Uhr wollte ich eigentlich am Syntagma Platz sein.

Leider stelle ich jedoch fest, dass ich nach 20 Minuten die Parallelstraßen zu der Hafenpromenade nun kenne, in der Buslinie 40 lang fährt, aber ich befinde ich immer noch in der Innenstadt von Piräus. Das dauert mir leider alles zu lange und so beschließe ich auszusteigen und suche den Weg zur U-Bahn, der allerdings gut 1 km von hier liegt, wie ich hinterher feststelle. Allerdings war es ein schöner Spaziergang, der mich entlang von schönen und interessanten Gebäuden und Marktplätzen führt.



Unfortunately I had to learn after 20 minutes that I was familiar now the streets few blocks way from the port promenade. But bus 40 was very slow and I was still in the city center of Piraeus. For me it took too long so I that decided to leave the bus and find the way to the metro stop which was about 2/3 miles away which learned after a long walk. But it was a very nice walk since I passed many nice and interesting buildings and market squares.

I arrived at the back side of the station for metro line 1. Nobody knows her as Metro. So always ask for ISAP or for the "Electric Rail".



Von hinten komme ich an den Bahnhof der Linie 1. Als Metro kennt sie hier keiner. Deswegen immer nach der ISAP oder nach der "Electric Rail" fragen.



Many times they explained that there is no Metro from Piraeus. But recently the three companies merged which run the "Electric Rail Piraeus" and the Metro which was operated as one system and last not least the tramlines.



Oft wurde mir erklärt, dass es keine Metro ab Piräus gibt, dabei wurde vor kurzem die drei Gesellschaften für die "Elektrische Bahn Piräus" and die Metro, die allerdings ein System bilden, und die Straßenbahn fusioniert.

Es war doch ein bisschen weiter weg, als ich dachte, weil es nochmals einen Knick gibt.



It was much more to walk than I expected because there was another curve.

On Saturday every 10 minutes and they had construction works.



Samstags alle 10 Minuten und dazu noch Baustellenbetrieb.

Nicht nur die Bahnen waren voller Graffitis, sondern auch die gesamte Strecke bis Athen.



Not just the trains were full of graffitis but also the whole rail line to Athens.

I need to change one more time before I could get to Syntagma-Square.



Ich muss also nochmals umsteigen, um zum Syntagma-Platz zu kommen.

Hier am Bahnhof Monastiraki.

Der alte Name war früher Monastirion.

Mit der Flughafenbahn geht es weiter.



I continued with the airport line.

The new urban rail company is STASY. Here you get also information on the Athens' Metro-lines 2 and 3 and the tramway-lines.



Die neue Stadtbahngesellschaft heißt STASY. Hier gibt es dann auch die Informationen zu den Athener Metrolinien 2 und 3 und zu den Straßenbahnlinien.

Und früher war eben die Linie 1 die Elektrische Bahn der ISAP. Damit hat ja Griechenland z. B. eine Sparauflage erfüllt: ein Vorstand und zwei Arbeitslose statt drei Vorstände...



And earlier Line 1 was part the Electric Rail ISAP. So Greece made the forced savings: one board member and two unemployed insted of three members of board...

Quickly I had to get off after the transfer: Syntagma and here I need to find the right exit.



Schnell muss ich nach dem Umsteigen wieder raus: Syntagma und dort dann den richtigen Ausgang finden.

Am Parlamentsgebäude komme ich raus.



I came out with the Parliament building.

And here the Syntagma-Square.



Hier der Syntagma-Platz.

Und dort das Hotel Grande Bretagne, wo ich erwartet werde.



And there you had the Hotel Grande Bretagne where they were waiting for me.

There was Johanna and the others.



Dort sind Johanna und die anderen.

Wir sind zum Mittagessen verabredet. Weil aber auch Niko (Johanna's husband) mitsoll, bitte ich ihn mich am Syntagma-Platz einzusammeln. Durch die engen Gassen Athens geht es hoch.



We had an appointment for lunch. Because Niko (Johanna's husband) should join us I asked him to collect me at Syntagma-Square. Through the narrow lanes of Athens we went up.

Up to Mount Lycabettus (or in Greek Lykavittos). Unfortunately we just missed the departure of the ropecar and it runs every 30 minutes. So Johanna and Niko gave us a lift to the parking. The walk from here was short but very straining. You better should wait for the next rope car. The view over Athens was spectacular. Even you could see the Akropolis.



Es geht hoch zum Lykabettos (bzw. in Griechisch Lykavittos). Leider hatten wir gerade eine Seilbahnabfahrt verpasst und sie fährt nur alle 30 Minuten. So setzten Johanna und Niko uns am Parkplatz ab. Aber der Weg ist zwar kurz aber anstrengend. Man hätte auch durchaus die nächste Bahn abwarten können. Der Ausblick über Athen ist jedoch spektakulär. Sogar zur Akropolis kann man rüber gucken.

Wenn Mobilfunkantennen im Bild sind, dann sind es Bilder, die Bruno gemacht hat...

Here on the top you have a small chapel: St. George-Chapel. Climbing here was worth. I remember the last time we went was 2005 and they were preparing for an open-air-gig. But that day it was raining dogs and cats.



Hier oben steht auch eine kleine Kapelle: St. Georgs-Kapelle. Der Aufstieg hat sich gelohnt. Beim letzten 2005 kann ich mich noch erinnern, dass ein Konzert in der Freilichtbühne vorbereitet wurde. Nur an dem Tag hatte es in Strömen geregnet.

Hier oben kann man auch nett essen. Für jeden Geldbeutel ist etwas dabei.



It was a nice place to eat. You had food for every budget.

Even the pigeons liked to eat here.



Sogar die Tauben mögen es hier.





Wir gehen jedoch in die Lounge des Orizontes-Restaurants, weil es hier einen wunderbaren Ausblick gibt und man auch windgeschützt hier drin sitzt (Nr. 135 von 1.631 auf Tripadvisor).



We went to the lounge of the restaurant Orizontes because you had here a panoramic view and it was wind protected indoor. (No. 135 of 1,631 on Tripadvisor).





The design of the menu card was somehow strange...



Das Design der Karten war etwas ungewöhnlich...

Das Brot war dafür umso leckerer...



But the taste of the bread was very yummy...

That was somehow a little strange: On few menus the Crete salad was 12.00 EUR.



Nur war es etwas eigenartig: Auf manchen Karten kostete der Kretische Salat 12,00 EUR.

Auf anderen Karten 14,00 EUR. Die Preise der Hauptspeisen hat sich keiner getraut uns anzusehen... Abschließend haben wir jedoch für den Griechischen Salat 10,80 EUR statt 10,00 EUR wie in der Speisekarte ausgedruckt bezahlt. Vielleicht eine Art Solidaritätszuschlag für den griechischen Staat.



On other menus it was 14.00 EUR. None of us wanted to see the prices of the entree... Finally the Greek salad was charged 10.80 EUR but 10.00 EUR according to the menu. Maybe a surcharge to rescue the State of Greece.

I wore for this special event my t-shirt which I bought for the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens.



Ich habe extra mein T-Shirt angezogen, das ich anlässlich der Olympischen Spielen 2004 in Athen gekauft habe.

On my backside you had a wonderful view.

But anyhow I was glad to see Johanna and Niko again.



Auf jeden Fall freue ich mich wieder Johanna und Niko zu sehen.

Und Hans und Erika erfreuen sich auch über den Blick über Athen.



And Hans and Erika were happy too to see Athens from this point of view.

As COSMOTE only sent all text-messages in Greek I had to ask Johanna for translation of all messages. Finally we still had no idea how much internet-volume we booked.



Da COSMOTE alle SMS nur auf griechisch schreibt, muss Johanna für mich alle Nachrichten übersetzen. Am Schluss wissen wir allerdings immer noch nicht, wieviel Internetvolumen wir nun gebucht haben.

Das Olivenöl und die Oliven sind sehr lecker.



The olive oil and the olives were very yummy.

We got some soup on the house.



Wir bekommen noch eine Suppe aufs Haus.

Und dann kommt mein Griechischer Bauernsalat.



And then my Greek Farmer's Salad came.

Looked a little strange to me.



Sieht doch etwas ungewöhnlich aus.

Und Sigi möchte gerne wissen, wie dieses Kraut aus Kreta heißt. Es ist keine Petersilie.



And Sigi wanted to know what kind of Crete herbs she had. It was no parsley.

Also the other parts of the restaurant was very nice.



Sehr schön ist auch das restliche Lokal.

Und vor allem sollte ich auf die Toilette gehen, um dieses "Waschbecken" zu fotografieren. Das Wasser fließt auf die Steine am Boden. Kein "Waschtisch". Der Herr war so nett Modell zu stehen. Vielen Dank.



I was asked to see the restrooms to the take a picture of the "sink". The water was flowing on the floor with stones. No real "sink". The gentleman was no nice to be my dressman. Thanks a lot.

We went down by rope car (Teleferik). 3.50 EUR (single - 2014) and every 30 minutes on 00 and 30 past the hour. And all sponsored by Metaxa. On the ride downwards we checked the invoice. We became co-owner of the restaurant or we paid for a magnificant view. Last was worth to pay.



Runter geht es dann mit der Standseilbahn (Teleferik). 3,50 EUR (einfach - 2014) und alle 30 Minuten auf voll und halb. Und alles von Metaxa gesponsort. Auf der Fahrt nach unten, überprüfen wir nochmals die Rechnung. Wir sind wohl Miteigentümer des Restaurants geworden oder wir haben für den wunderbaren Ausblick mitbezahlt. Letzteres hat sich wirklich gelohnt.

In wenigen Minuten sind wir an der Talstation.

In this area you had to walk up and down on the stairs.



In dieser Gegend geht es nur über Treppen rauf und runter.









Aber im Auto geht es auch nur weiter, wenn man mal wieder ein Stück rückwärts fährt.



Even if you were driving you might drive backwards some parts.

As the climb was too stressful we went immediately back to Piraeus. Niko should deliver me at the Metro-station but he wanted to deliver me right to the port.



Da der Aufstieg doch sehr anstrengend war, fahren wir direkt zurück nach Piräus. Niko sollte mich an der U-Bahn absetzen. Aber er hat es sich nicht nehmen lassen, uns bis zum Hafen zu fahren.

Von Johanna und Niko verabschieden wir uns bis September 2014, wenn wieder mit der NORWEGIAN JADE im Hafen sind.



So we had to say Good-Bye to Johanna and Niko until September 2014 when we are back in port by NORWEGIAN JADE.

Then we are planning to see Cap Sounion.



Dann soll es nach Cap Sounion gehen.

Im Cruise Terminal gucke ich mich noch ein wenig in den Geschäften herum. Nur Souvlaki gibt es keines hier.



In the cruise terminal I was browsing in the store. But there was no Souvlaki available.
