Tag/Day 5.3 auf der/on NORWEGIAN JADE in Izmir, Turkey

Wir haben noch Lust auf einen Wochenmarkt. Es duftet überall. Es ist wie eine Farbentherapie. Vieles kennen wir gar nicht.



We were interested to see the farmer's market. It was smelling great everywhere. It was like a color therapy. Many things we were unable to identify.

Although I was full: it was smelling too good. I had to try. They had Gözleme.



Obwohl ich eigentlich satt bin: Es duftet einfach zu toll. Ich muss probieren. Es gibt Gözleme.

Hier wird frisches Yufka hergestellt. Gefüllt wurde es mit einer Kräutermischung, die ich bisher nicht kannte. In dieser Form bekomme ich es bei meinem türkischen Lieblingsbäcker in Mannheim Saray leider nicht, obwohl dort auch Gözleme ganz frisch vor den Augen der Käufer zubereitet werden. Und meine türkische Sekretärin hat mir mit Kündigung gedroht, falls ich ihr diesen Verkaufsstand kaufe und zum Geburtstag schenke... Dann darf sie eben nicht mehr mit auf Kreuzfahrt!



Here they prepared fresh Yufka. Filled with a mix of herbs I have never seen before. I could not get it with my favorite Turkish bakery Saray in Mannheim Germany - although they also prepare Gözleme just in front of your eyes. And my Turkish secretary said that she would quit if I would buy this sales outlet and give it her as birthday present... So I cannot take her anymore for any cruises!





Although the Köfte were smelling so good and called all the time: "Buy me, Eat me, I am very yummy": Nothing would go into my stomach.



Obwohl die Köfte dufteten und mir zuriefen: "Kauf mich, Iss mich, ich bin richtig lecker": Es ging nichts mehr.

Bruno kauft ein paar Mandarinen und sagt, dass es die leckersten in seinem Leben waren.

Wir lassen uns direkt zum Hafen fahren und verabschieden uns bei Volkan und bedanken uns für eine tolle Tour. Wenn Deniz die Tour für morgen genauso gut arrangiert hat, dann ist ja alles bestens. Auf jeden Fall ruft der Istanbuler Agent bei Volkan an, um einige Punkte im Vorwege zu klären. Nun muss ich aber doch mal Geld beschaffen. Direkt am Ausgang am Hafen (Liman) gibt es einen Geldautomat. Der hat jedoch nur Türkische Lira.



We asked them to take us back to the port and said good-gye and thank Volkan for a great tour. If Deniz has arranged the tour for the next day the same way then everything would be perfect again. Anyhow the Istanbul agent called Volkan to check few items before we arrive. But now I need to arrange some more money. Just at the exit from the port (Liman) there was an ATM. But this one only has Turkish Lira.

But all you need to do is heading towards Migros.



Man braucht jedoch nur in Richtung Migros laufen.

Ein Block weiter sind vier Geldautomaten direkt nebeneinander.



One more block and you have four ATMs next to each other.

I decided to use the green machine... A female friend would say this because she bought once a modem because the red was so nice and not because of the technical requirements...



Ich entscheide mich für den grünen Automaten... Hätte eine Freundin gesagt, weil sie mal ein Modem nicht nach den technischen Anforderungen gekauft hat, sondern das Modem so schön rot war...

Nein - der Geldautomat der Bank Parisbas.

So I also got US-Dollar. The service on board was too good. And we were running out of US-Dollars.



So bekomme ich auch US-Dollar. Der Service an Bord ist zu gut. Uns gehen die Dollars aus.

Und ich bekomme Euro, weil ich die Touren hier in der Türkei in Euro bezahlen muss.



And I got Euro because of the tours here in Turkey which I need to pay in Euro.

I went back for our ship and I could finally see the location of our cabins.



Zurück geht es an Bord und ich sehe endlich, wo unsere Kabinen liegen.

Falls jemand Alkohol unterwegs gekauft hat: entweder Korkgeld oder einsammeln und bis zum Ende der Kreuzfahrt aufbewahren lassen.



Just in case someone bought alcohol in the ports: you can choose: you pay the corkage fee or you let them collect and store your alcohol until the end of the cruise.

What was very good with Princess and speeds up all procedures: to occupy the elevators with lift boys who could quickly take the guests to their decks and one part of the elevators you let them use in self-service. So the idiots could push as much as they want up and down even they only want to get up.



Was bei Princess echt gut ist und alles beschleunigt: den Aufzug mit Liftboys zu besetzen, die schnell Gäste hochfahren und absetzen und ein Teil auf SB lassen. Dann können die Idioten noch so oft auf oben und unten drücken, auch wenn sie nur nach oben wollen.

Die Bordklinik mussten wir dieses Mal nicht aufsuchen.



There was no need to see the ship's clinic this time.

I was happy that I saw the ATM. It was really expensive to change money here.



Zum Glück war ich ja schon am Geldautomat. Hier ist es echt teuer Geld zu wechseln.

Christine macht noch ein paar Abschiedsbilder von ihren Butler-Kollegen, weil sie ja mit uns in Civitavecchia von Bord geht.



Christine wanted to take few pictures from her butler-collegues because she will leave the ship with us in Civitavecchia.

Very nice guitar music with RJ Red. In the German programme they wrote so nice: warm and wonderful songs. Last night they published in their programme: SOFT guitarjazz according to the programme but you got instead four days after the Russian-Orthodox Christmas some Christmas Charols. I was still upset on the last night. But soon the guitarist is in Sochi and there he can cheer up his fellow countrymen with his Christmas Charols.



Schöne Gitarrenmusik mit RJ Red. Wie steht es im Programm so schön: warme und wundervolle Lieder. Gestern Abend stand im Programm: SANFTER Gitarrenjazz hätte es laut Programm sein sollen, stattdessen Weihnachtslieder vier Tage nach dem russisch-orthodoxen Weihnachtsfest. Ich rege mich immer noch über den Abend zuvor auf. Bald ist der Gitarrist von gestern Abend ja in Sotchi und dann dort seine Landsleute mit der Weihnachtsmusik anfeuern.

Ein weiteres Poloshirt mit 100% Baumwolle gefunden und dabei stelle ich fest: NCL ist genauso alt wie ich: 1966 ist offensichtlich ein guter Jahrgang.



I found another polo-shirt with 100% cotton and also found out: NCL is as old as me: 1966 seems to be good year.

I bought some water.



Ich hatte noch etwas Wasser gekauft.

O.K. - Mark hat uns weich bekommen. Morgen werden wir seinen Service nutzen.



O.K. - Mark softened us. The next day we would use his service.

Cruise Consultant Paloma called to explain that she checked my booking and said that everything was fine when they will confirm the Cruise Reward at the end of the cruise to Miami.



Cruise Consultant Paloma ruft mich an, um mir zu erklären, dass sie sich meine Buchung angesehen hat und meint, dass alles in Ordnung sei, auch wenn erst am Ende der Fahrt der Kauf in Miami bestätigt wird.

Leckerlis von Mark... Ich "liebe" ihn... ist bestimmt wieder etwas für mich: salzig...

Cheese... but without silverware it was somehow difficult to handle. So the cabin service did not pay attention of.



Käse... leider ohne Besteck nicht richtig gut hand zu haben. Da hat der Kabinenservice nicht richtig aufgepasst.

Ich "hasse" Telekom-Partner Turkcell Europe. Ich habe für die schlechte Leistung im Herbst in Kusadasi eine Gutschrift erhalten. Außerdem bin ich endlich selbst Kunde, weil die Karte auf einen Unbekannten in Berlin zugelassen war. Aber selbst in der Innenstadt von Izmir gab es nur EDGE. Ich werde die Karte an Turkcell Europe zurücksenden.



I "hate" T-Mobile-Partner Turkcell Europe. I got for their bad performance in Kusadas a credit. Finally I am customer by myself and not anymore the unknown guy in Berlin. But even in the city center of Izmir you got only 2.5 G. I will return the card back to Turkcell Europe.

It was good to have a talk with the senior management: the great chicken soup with the ginger flavour was back. Unfortunately I later forgot my handbag. But I was called by the front desk to tell me that they found it and I should see them to collect. So I went back to the Blue Lagoon Café to say thank you to the person who found it.



Ein Gutes hatte die Rücksprache mit dem Senior Management: Es gab wieder die tolle Hühnersuppe mit dem Ingwergeschmack. Leider vergesse ich später eine Tasche. Ich werde aber sofort von Rezeption angerufen, dass man sie gefunden hätte und ich sie abholen möge. Darauf hin gehe ich wieder zurück zum Blue Lagoon Café um mich beim Finder zu bedanken.



So a nice call in Izmir came to the end. We learned later that this was the very last call in Izmir. After the Olympic Games in Sochi they will call Kusadasi instead. There we went recently on RYNDAM (see RYNDAM-Blog).



So geht ein schöner Landgang in Izmir zu Ende. Wie wir später erfahren, wurde Izmir heute zum letzten Mal angelaufen. Nach den Olympischen Spielen in Sotchi wird dann Kusadasi angelaufen. Da waren wir erst vor kurzem mit der RYNDAM (siehe RYNDAM-Blog).





Wir gucken nach, wo Platz ist und entscheiden uns für das Grand Pacific.

The insolence of it! It was not me as Super-VIP of NCL who was greeted first but Hans and Erika. Admir Habibovic reminded Bruno's parents.



So eine Unverschämtheit... Nicht ich als Super-VIP von NCL werde als erster begrüßt, sonder Hans und Erika. Admir Habibovic hat Brunos Eltern wiedererkannt.

Damals auf der NORWEGIAN JADE 2011 von Venedig nach Civitavecchia musste er bei einer privaten Galley-Tour als Übersetzer herhalten. Zwischen damals und heute, kann ich nur den Hut vor ihm sein. Er spricht jetzt ganz toll deutsch!!!



Then on NORWEGIAN JADE 2011 from Venice to Civitavecchia he had to interprete a private galley-tour. Between then and now I can only show him my respect: He speaks now fluently German!!!

Then on NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY: the only lady in this round was Deepa Jaiswal.



Damals auf der NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY 2012: Die einzige Dame in der Runde ist Deepa Jaiswal.

Und das hier ist Seepa Jaiswal - die Schwester. Ich habe bislang immer gedacht, dass ich es mit der selben Person zu tun hatte. Erst bei Facebook fiel mir die "gespaltene" Persönlichkeit auf, die sich einmal Deepa und einmal Seepa nennt. Der Bruder hat mich dann aufgeklärt, dass es beide gibt... und ich dachte wieder, dass ich wieder zur Gedächtnissprechstunde nach Göttingen muss... Sie ist hier für Fortuso eingesprungen, der leider erkrankt ist. Aber auch ihren Service genießen wir sehr. Mal gucken, wenn wir mal beide Schwestern zusammen auf einem Schiff in einem Restaurant haben. Das muss doch wie ein Besuch im Paradies sein...



And this is Seepa Jaiswal - the sister. I thought so far that I dealed with the same person. But on Facebook I was surprised to deal with a "split" personality. Their brother told me then that booth are existing... and I always thought that I need to see the brain consultation at the University Clinics in Göttingen again... She was replacing Fortuso who was sick. But we also enjoy her service. Let's see if one day we have both sisters on one ship in one restaurant. That will become like a visit in paradise.

In the front Vladimir Krivian was playing piano... and during the breaks he was selling roses... I was glad that it was not so bad. But if one day the have vendors of roses walking between the tables like hier in Mannheim, Germany it is time to leave NCL forever... Vladimir served the different nationals in the main dining room. So if he played Italian songs the Italians were singing loud with him and when he was playing Spanish songs the Spanish were singing. So you could easily hear where the different nationals were sitting.



Vorne spielt Vladimir Krivian am Klavier... nebenbei verkauft er noch Rosen in den Pausen... zum Glück ist es nicht so schlimm. Wenn auf einmal Rosenverkäufer zwischen den Tischen herumlaufen, wie in Mannheim, verlasse ich NCL für immer... Vladmir bedient schön die unterschiedlichen Volksgruppen im Hauptrestaurant. Wenn er italienische Lieder spielt, singen die Italiener laut mit, und bei spanischen Liedern die Spanier. So hört man immer gerade sehr gut, welche Volksgruppe wo sitzt.

Für Erika kaufe ich eine CD, weil er so schön spielt und er gibt ihr ein Autogramm.



For Erika I bought a CD because he was playing so nice and he signed her CD with a personal greeting.

But nothing special else with this dinner.



Ansonsten verläuft das Abendessen wenig spektakulär.

Es geht dann in die Show Showdown.



So I went to the show Showdown.

The cup holder for the coaches. If they are still there they looked terrible.



Die Getränkehalter für die Busse. Falls sie noch da sind, sehen sie schlimm aus.

Eine Show, die ich bisher noch nicht kannte. Sie läuft interaktiv mit dem Publikum und Cruise Director Jill spielt mit. Im Rahmen eines fiktiven Gesangswettbewerbs werden die Lieder entsprechend vorgetragen. Und das Publikum macht mit: Es tanzt der Wolf - es steppt der Bär. Selten so viel Spaß gemacht. Minutenlang stand das Publikum und tanzte mit. Genau der richtige Spaß für mich, bevor es wieder ins Bett ging. Zum Glück ist am nächsten Morgen erst mal Ausschlafen angesagt.



A show which I did not know so far. It was interactive with the audience and Cruise Director Jill had to play in the show too. Within a fictive song contest they sang the typicial songs. And the audience had to join: In Germany we say that wolve dances and the bear was doing tapdance. I had really a lot of fun. For many minutes the audience was standing and dancing. Exactly the right fun before returning to bed. I was happy that the next day allows a long sleep.
