Tag/Day 0.1 Pre-Cruise auf der/on NORWEGIAN EPIC in Paris, France

Los ging es in Mannheim. Dank genügender Punkte bei bahn.bonus konnte ich kostenlos fahren. Leider gab es keine Fahrkarte für 3., so dass Bruno selbst sich ein Ticket kaufen musste. Da wir aber am 1. Tag des Verkaufsstarts die Fahrkarten besorgt hatten, war es echt günstig. Überrascht war ich allerdings, dass mitlerweile auf der Frankfurt-Strecke auch ein TGV eingesetzt wird.



Our journey started in Mannheim. I had enough points with the loyalty programme of German Railways. But there were no tickets for 3rd parties so Bruno had to buy himself a ticket. As we purchased the first day of availability it was really cheap. I was only surprised that they use a French TGV High Speed Trains on this Frankfurt-route.

Track 1 fit perfectly as we parked just next to this track.



Gleis 1 passte gut, weil wir direkt daneben geparkt haben.

TGV Duplex... Doppeldecker... und zu meiner Überraschung: trotz Lufthansa-Streiks kein Chaos, wie damals bei der Vulkanasche.



TGV Duplex... Doubledecker... to my big surprise: although there was a strike with Lufthansa German Airlines: no chaos like with the vulcano ash then.

Very nice how they had racks for baggage in the entrance area and a phone zone so nobody shold be bothered in the compartments.



Sehr schön: die Kofferablagen im Eingangsbereich und die Telefonierzone, damit im Großraum niemand belästigt wird.

Kein Koffer im Gang. Diese 1. Klasse ist echt besser.



No bag in the aisle. This 1st class was really much better.

Auch die Toiletten sind schöner als im ICE.

Hier geht sogar das Netbook rein.

Dann kommt ein 3-gängiges Menü... witzigerweise von der DB Gastronomie hergestellt. Und leider selbst bei der DB nicht zu bekommen. Und es war gut. Nur die Vorspeise war etwas zu scharf. Zum Menü werden Cola, Cola Light, Bier, Weißwein, Rotwein, Roséwein gereicht. Eine Flasche Wasser gehört selbstverständlich zu einem französischen Essen dazu.



Then you had a 3-course menu... it was funny that was delivered by German Railways and with German Railways itself you cannot get such a meal. And it was so good. Only the starter was a little too spicy. They served Coke, Diet Coke, Beer, White, Red and Rosé Wine with the menu. A bottle of water is always part of a French meal.





Die Zeit verging wie im Flug. Paris Ostbahnhof erreichen wir sogar vor der planmäßigen Ankunftszeit.



Time flied by. We arrived Paris East Station ahead of the schedule.

Our hotel was located towards the Square of the November 11.



Unser Hotel liegt Richtung Platz des 11. Novembers.

Gegenüber ist der Boulevard de Strasbourg.



Opposite is Boulevard de Strasbourg.

It was no accident to find this Alsace Bakery with their local cake Guglhupf here in this street as Strasbourg is the capital of Alsace.



Anscheinend kein Zufall, dass ein Elsässer Guglhupf-Bäcker hier in dieser Straße seinen Laden hat.

Grand Hotel de Paris... Unglaublich, aber wahr, dass das Hotel so hieß.

The famous elevator which was mentioned many many times in tripadvisor...



Der vielberühmte Fahrstuhl, der im tripadvisor immer zitiert wird...

Well with two you can make it. In Germany the Technical Inspection would not allow such an elevator.



Es stimmt: zu zweit geht es gerade noch. In Deutschland wäre das Ding durch den TÜV nie abgenommenw orden...

Und die wollen sogar drei Personen reinbekommen... Übereinander?

Our room was small but clean...



Unser Zimmer: klein aber rein...

Die Tapeten erinnern mich eher an ein französisches Bordell aus den Zeiten von Toulouse-Lautrec...



Well the wallpaper reminded me to a French Horehouse from the era of the French painter Toulouse-Lautrec.

It looked like that they recently renovated the hotel.



Das Bad war wohl kürzlich modernisiert.

Alles war blitzblank sauber. Nur wer hierher kam, um Boule zu spielen, wurde enttäuscht, weil der Boden wie in tripadvisor stand uneben war. Aber wer kommt nach Paris und spielt schon in seinem Hotelzimmer Boule?



Everything was clean. But who came to this place to place Boule might be disappointed because the floor was uneven, as described in tripadvisor. But who comes to Paris and plays Boule in his hotel room?

The room of the "Girlies"... Originally four but today only three. That was the reason why we did not book somewhere else. Close to East Station and for 4 girls and as we learned later a luxury accomodation compared to the cabin later on NORWEGIAN EPIC.



Das Zimmer meiner "Mädels"... Eigentlich vier, aber heute bloß drei. Das war auch der Grund, warum wir nicht woanders gebucht haben: Nähe Ostbahnhof und für 4 Mädels und wie sich später herausstellt, eine Luxusherberge gegenüber der Kabine später auf der NORWEGIAN EPIC.



For it was the same taste like the era everyone in France was able to dance French Can-Can.



Aber auch das hat für mich den Charme, als alle noch den French Can-Can tanzen konnten.

Aber auch das Bad: frisch renoviert und blitzblank sauber.



The bathroom was freshly renovated recently and very clean.

We tried to find the busstop of bus 65 for the next morning.



Wir suchen schon mal für morgen die Haltestelle vom Bus 65.

Und bald haben wir sie gefunden.



And soon we found it.

For safety reasons we took a picture of the schedule. But you find only the frequency of the bus.



Sicherheitshalber nehmen wir mal ein Bild vom Fahrplan auf. Wobei eigentlich hier nur der Takt angegeben ist.

Wir laufen die 650 m zum Nordbahnhof



We walked about 1/3 mile to the North Station.

Here we tried to buy our tickets to Charles de Gaulle Airport. But only one machine worked properly.



Hier versuchen wir verzweifelt Tickets zum Flughafen Charles de Gaulle zu kaufen. Nur ein Automat funktioniert.

Es geht mit der S-Bahn (RER) zum Flughafen.



We used the commuter train (RER) to the airport.

If you like to go to the airport you must buy different ticket than the tickets within the city of Paris.



Wenn man zum Flughafen will, muss man unbedingt andere Tickets kaufen, als wenn man innerhalb Paris fährt.

Und man muss darauf achten, den richtigen Zug zu erwischen.



And you need to find the right train.

We had luck and got an express train which only stops at the Exhibition Ground on the way to the airport.



Wir haben Glück, dass ein Express kommt, der nur einmal an der Messe auf dem Weg zum Flughafen hält.

Es ist so warm noch, dass wir sogar noch mit Polo-Shirts rumlaufen können und den Zug haben wir fast für uns alleine.



It was so warm that could walk with Polo-Shirts and we had almost the train just for us alone.
