(Verpasster) Seetag/(Missed) Day at sea 10 auf der/on NORWEGIAN SUN (in Greenock,Scotland)

Morgens gegen 04.30 Uhr mussten wir aufstehen. Während wir duschen und uns sonst fertigmachen, fällt auch mal das Licht aus.



We had to wake up at 04.30 hrs. While we took a shower and prepared for check-out we had temporary no light.

This did not work well as well... Mixing meant that you had alternating warm and cold water... Greetings from Sebastian Kneipp (found out that such kind of baths help you to strenghten your immune system.



Das funktioniert auch nicht so richtig... Mischen heißt hier, dass warm und kalt abwechselnd kommen... Grüße von Sebastian Kneipp...

Ich verzichte auf das Frühstück. Die drei haben sich einen Einlauf eingefangen, weil sie wenige Minuten zu früh erschienen sind... Soviel zum Thema Service Exzellenz.



I did not take any breakfast. The three got crapped on because they allowed to show up few minutes earlier... Well... another good sample for Service Excellence.

I delivered them in front of the terminal and drove alone the car back to Europcar. I did not take the shuttle back and walked back. In this season it was the very first time that you had some frost on the windows.



Ich setze alle direkt vor dem Terminal ab und fahre alleine den Wagen zu Europcar. Auf einen Shuttle zurück verzichte ich und laufe zu Fuß. In dieser Saison war es übrigens das erste Mal, dass ich Reif von den Scheiben wischen musste.

Wir sollten zwei Stunden vorher da sein, auch um 05.30 Uhr - aber alles ist harmlos.



We should be there two hours ahead - even at 05.30 hrs - but it was harmless.

I did not buy so much... so I did not need to see the customs first.



Soviel habe ich nicht eingekauft... also brauche ich auch nicht vorher zum Zoll.

O.K. 15 Minuten bis zum Ausgang... muss ich noch einplanen...

When you let them book back the money to your credit card you get back 950.00 ISK. If I want to have it cash they will charge you a handling fee.



Bei der direkten Rückbuchung auf die Kreditkarte bekomme ich die 950,00 ISK wieder. Wenn ich es in bar wiederhaben will, bekomme ich eine Bearbeitungsgebühr augebrummt.

Ich hole mir VitaminWater und ein Lammschinken-Brot. Ich hatte extra nachgefragt, ob man Getränke im Flugzeug auch bezahlen muss: es hieß ja. Daher habe ich mal sicherheitshalber noch Wasser für unterwegs gekauft.



I got me some VitaminWater and a lamb ham sandwich. I asked if the you need to pay for beverages on the flight and they said: yes. So I bought some water for the flight.

Aha... we left Schengen... but for the USA you had further checks. But they were not checked by US-CBP like in Ireland.



Aha... wir verlassen Schengen... aber für USA gibt es noch weitere Kontrollen. Nur sind sie noch nicht US-CBP-abgefertigt, wie in Irland.

Unser Flug nach Glasgow. Es war echt billig, weil wir so früh gebucht hatten. So konnten wir uns überhaupt nur diesen Ausflug leisten.

Frances bekommt von uns Gammel Dansk. Den gab es hier im Duty Free Shop in den Mini-Flaschen...

An airline which names its planes after vulcanos... maybe Iceland has more vulcanos but cities which can name their planes. I think Bruno will become their frequent traveller - me never.



Eine Fluggesellschaft, die ihre Flugzeuge nach Vulkanen benennt... wahrscheinlich gibt es in Island mehr Vulkane als Ortschaften, nach denen sie benannt werden können. Bruno wird hier bestimmt Vielflieger - ich niemals.

Jeder von uns bekam zwei Kopfführer.

It was much cheaper than with easy.Jet.



Das ist doch um einiges günstiger als bei easy.Jet.







You must accept some compromises if you are flying in a Boeing 757... when they had their best times there was no individual onboard entertainment available.



Man muss Kompromisse eingehen, wenn man in einer Boeing 757 unterwegs ist... in ihren besten Zeiten gab es nun mal keine individuelle Bordunterhaltung.

Bruno will über den Notausgang aussteigen: Es gibt zum Verleih den Sony Playstation... und er arbeitet doch bei Nintendo...

Isländischer Donut... muss ich sofort probieren...

And there was no need to buy something to drink... on with charter flights...



Und ich hätte doch nichts zu trinken kaufen müssen... nur bei Charterflügen...

Es gibt sogar noch einen Beutel Knabbergebäck.

In Glasgow wurden wir regelrecht runtergedrückt. Wir waren froh, dass wir heil gelandet sind.



In Glasgow we were more less pushed down. We were glad to have a happy landing.

The baggage need a little longer. So I started to look for our car.



Mit dem Gepäck dauerte es etwas länger. So ging ich schon mal den Wagen suchen.

Die Autovermietungen sind alle draußen. Zunächst gab es bei Europcar eine Debatte, ob ich nun den Wagen in Greenock am Hafen zurückgeben darf. Als ich dann meinte, dass sie fast ein Jahr Zeit hatten, um mir das mitzuteilen, dass es nicht geht, kam dann aber die Mitteilung, dass man den Schlüssel einfach bei der Security abgeben kann. Dort kann man auch anmieten.



The car rental offices were all outside. First I had a debate with Europcar if I could return the car at the port in Greenock. When I said that they had about one year time to tell me that I could not, they could tell me that you also can return your key with the security in the port. You could also rent a car there.

We booked a Zafira (Mini-Van).



Wir hatten einen Zafira bestellt.

Wir wohnen direkt am Flughafen im Holiday Inn Express, das direkt hinter dem Mietwagen-Parkplatz liegt: 170,00 GBP (ca. 210,00 EUR) ... so hoch war der Tagespreis, aber wir hatten sehr früh und sehr günstig gebucht... Übrigens es gibt auch direkt gegenüber ein normales Holiday Inn.



We stayed at the airport in the Holiday Inn Express which was located just behind the car rental parking: 170.00 GBP (about 275.00 USD)... that was the actual daily rate, but we booked very early and very cheap... By the way just opposite there was also a regular Holiday inn.

Mail for me? Agnes and John wanted to make sure that we find our ways around...



Post für mich? Agnes und John wollten sicherstellen, dass wir uns zurecht finden...

Und noch mehr? Das war das Hotelmanagement, um mich zu begrüßen...

Tea... finally the bag stayed inside so you could decide yourself when to move out.



Tee... endlich bleibt der Beutel mal drin, so dass man selbst bestimmen kann, wann er rauskommt.

Frances und Eddie sind jetzt etwas erstaunt: Mushy Peas (Erbspürree) und Malzessig... Weil sie als Amerikaner identifiziert werden, gibt es auch Ketchup...



Frances and Eddie were somehow surprised: Mushy Peas and malt vinegar... Because they were identified as Americans they served also some ketchup...

But Frances tried the original: With some mal vinegar on the French Fries.



Aber Frances versucht es original: Mit Malzessig auf die Pommes Frites.



On our way Bruno displaced me as driver...



Unterwegs löst mich Bruno ab beim Fahren...



We drove through Edinburgh...

und haben ein Riesenproblem, trotz Navisystem.



and we had a giant problem even we had an GPS-device.

Because of the tram construction site in the city we had no chance to get on the other side of the city on the Royal Mile or the castle. So we ended up "Upstairs - Downstairs" (a British TV-series of the 70s which played 10s and 20s at Eaton Place in London - which looked same like here around).



Wegen der Straßenbahnbaustelle in der Stadt, kommen wir nicht auf die andere Seite zur Burg und Royal Mile. So enden wir quasi am "Haus am Eaton Place"...

Wir sind kurzerhand nach Leith gefahren, um uns dort am Ocean Terminal uns die Royal Yacht Britannia anzusehen.



We decided short-notice to go to Leith to see at the Ocean Terminal the Royal Yacht Britannia.



11,75 GBP (2012 = 14,50 EUR) beträgt der Eintritt... aber beides Teetrinken und Schiff gucken?



11.75 GBP (2012 = 19.00 USD) was the admission fee... but would both work: time time and ship visit?

Seniors only pay 10.00 GBP (2012 = 15.00 USD).



Senioren zahlen nur 10,00 GBP (2012 = 12,50 EUR).

Man läuft immer von Deck zu Deck und das Deck wechselt man an Land...

We had no time anymore to see the red carpet. We need some time to buy some souvenirs for our crew-friends who had no time to leave the ship and to see this place.



Den roten Teppich schaffen wir aber nicht mehr zu besuchen. Wir brauchen etwas Zeit, um ein paar Souvenirs für unsere Crew-Freunde zu kaufem, da sie i. d. R. keine Zeit haben, um auch mal solche Orte zu sehen.

Wir hatten keine Zeit für den roten Teppich, weil wir noch Tee trinken waren...



We had no time for the red carpet because we need some time for tea...

Well... we waited to be guided directly to the window.



Na gut... wir haben gewartet, um direkt ans Fenster geführt zu werden.

Ganz schön schlicht...



It was very plain...

Maybe so many many menu cards were stolen that they kept them very plain...



Wahrscheinlich wurden schon viel zu viele Speisekarten geklaut... deswegen auch schlicht...





Am Piano hatte sich spontan ein Gast hingesetzt und "Rule Britannia" gespielt, worauf alle, die den Text kannten, auch mitgesungen haben.



A guest sat at the piano spontaneously and played "Rule Britannia" and every one who knew the lyrics sang along.



Die Tischuntersetzer waren natürlich so gestaltet, dass es schon auffiel, wenn man sie mitnahm...



The table settings were designed so well that it would attract someone's attention if you take them with you...

I took an ice tea which was prepared the Royal Yacht Britannia style.



Ich nehme einen Eistee, der nach Art der Royal Yacht Britannia zubereitet war.

Die anderen nehmen klassischen englischen Tee.



The other took classical English tea.



Und da wäre der Scone Nummer 1 für Eddie und Frances... Wir haben die Clotted Cream (besonders fettreiche Butter) mitbestellt. Damit sie sie essen, hat Bruno sich bei der Übersetzung "vertan" und behauptet, dass es Frischkäse wäre...



And here we had Scone Number 1 for Eddie and Frances... We ordered Clotted Cream (extreme fat buttercream). To make sure that they will eat it Bruno made a "mistake" with the translation and said that it was cream cheese...



Aber es schmeckt wohl...



But they like it...

Wedgewood... same like with Cunard...

Nun hat Bruno wohl gemerkt, dass er wohl versehentlich Frischkäse gesagt hat und klärt Frances auf... Sie wunderte sich schon, wie Frischkäse so schön luftig sein konnte...



Now Bruno found out that he said by mistake cream cheese and told Frances what she ate... She was wondering why the cream cheese was so fluffy...

Frances went to see the restrooms...



Frances geht auf die Toilette....

Wir fragen nach, ob das die Toilette sei, die schon von Queen Elizabeth II. benutzt wurde, als sie noch mit der Yacht unterwegs war...



We asked if this toilet was in use when Queen Elizabeth II. was sailing with this yacht...

They said no as this deck was built after the yacht was retired BUT during a party for the birthday of Prince Philip Queen Elizabeth II. was here and saw the restroom... but of course, they had no knowledge which cabin she used... So Frances had a 50:50 chance to sit there where the Queen sat before...



Man verneint es, da dieses Deck erst gebaut wurde, als die Yacht außer Dienst gestellt wurde, ABER anlässlich der Geburtsfeier für Prinz Philip, wäre Queen Elizabeth II. hier gewesen... und hätte auch die Toilette aufgesucht... aber es würde sich selbstverständlich ihren Kenntnissen entziehen, welche Kabine sie benutzt hätte... Deswegen wäre eine 50:50 Chance, dass Frances da gesessen hätte, wo die Queen auch schon saß...

Frances war von der Innenausstattung der Damentoilette ganz begeistert. Während die Bilder der Herrentoilette von mir doch sehr nüchtern sind.



Frances was very excited about the interior decoration of the ladies' room. While the pictures of the men's room were quite simple.

We continued to Glasgow. Originally our friends Agnes and John wanted to take us a little around, but it was too windy and too rainy, so we asked them to wait for us in the restaurant.



Weiter geht es nach Glasgow. Eigentlich wollten unsere Freunde Agnes und John uns noch etwas rumführen, aber es war zu windig und zu regnerisch, so dass wir sie gebeten haben, direkt im Restaurant zu warten.







We met at Guy's Restaurant.



Wir waren im Guy's Restaurant verabredet.

Agnes und John hatten wir erst vor wenigen Wochen gesehen, als wir mit der OCEAN COUNTESS in Greenock waren. Eigentlich war vorgesehen, dass sie uns die zwei Tage begleiten. Leider kam jedoch ein Trauerfall in ihrer Familie dazwischen, so dass wir nur Gelegenheit hatten, sie zum Abendessen zu treffen.



We just met Agnes and John a few weeks ago when we called Greenock on OCEAN COUNTESS. It was initially planned that they should escort us for the two days. But they had a bereavement in their family so that they only had a chance to meet us for dinner.



Es war wieder ein ausgesprochen netter Abend, wie wenige Tage zuvor schon in Dänemark. Es ist echt schön, wenn man so überall auf der Welt Freunde hat. Speziell solche, bei denen man einfach andere Freunde mitbringen kann.



It was again a very nice evening like few days before we had in Denmark. It is always nice to have friends all over the world. Especially if you have some, you can take your other friends with you.

This was a sampler plate incl. "Haggis Tatties and Neeps"... but Frances could not bring herself to try it. Eddie did it...

Ich hatte Lamm. Irgendwie können sie es hier in Schottland besonders gut zubereiten.



I had lamb. Somehow they could prepare it very well in Scotland.

Bruno was happy to have his cappuccino as usual.



Bruno freute sich wie üblich über seinen Cappucino.



And Frances ate again Eddie's dessert after she said before that she did not want to have some...



Und Frances isst Eddie mal wieder das Dessert weg, nach dem es hieß, dass sie nichts wollte...



Again a nice evening in the a nice surrounding.



War wirklich ein schöner Abend in einer schönen Umgebung.



We said good-bye and to had to return back to our hotel to the airport.



Wir verabschieden uns und dann geht es zurück zum Hotel zum Flughafen.

Es war gut, dass wir getauscht hatten und zuerst nach Edinburgh gefahren sind, Der Wind hätte die Fahrt durch waldreiche Gebiete rund um Loch Lomond schwierig gemacht. Morgens während es noch regnete und stürmte hatte ich außerdem etwas Zeit für mich gebraucht, um einen Kranz für Frau Pannen zu bestellen und uns beim Hafenagenten zu melden, der es gut fand, dass wir kurz angerufen hatten, damit er die lokalen Hafenbehörden und das Schiff informieren konnte. Außerdem hatte er so unsere Kontaktdaten im Fall der Fälle. Und er konnte mir Tips geben, wann ich aufstehen musste, damit ich das Einlaufen nicht verpasste. Eines war schon klar: wir sollten keine Tickets nach Dublin bestellen. Der Lotse war schon für 05:45 Uhr bestellt. Greenock liegt weit weg von der offenen See, so dass er auf jeden Fall angelaufen werden kann. So fahren wir in Ruhe durch das beleuchtete Glasgow zurück.



It was good that we changed our plans and went to Edinburgh first. The wind would not allow an easy ride through the forest areas around Loch Lomond. In the morning we had some rain and wind so that I could use the time for myself to arrange some flowers for the funeral of Mrs. Pannen and to report to the port agent. He liked that we called him that he could inform the port authorities and the ship. Furthermore, he had our contact information just in case. Furthermore, he could give me some tips when I had to wake up not to miss the arrival. It was clear that we do not need to order tickets for Dublin. The pilot was ordered for 05:45 hrs and Greenock is located far away from the open sea so it could be called anyway. So we could get back very relaxed through the illuminated Glasgow.
